Possibly the best bean-stuffed warabi mochi in Japan. Some have argued that you can get 80% of the way there with a good stall in a depachika, so why bother coming all the way here? And in a way, they’d be right. But if you seek perfection, then make the trek out here, and order one more warabi mochi than you think you need. They also do pretty good renditions of other wagashi, but those are just 4/5 for me. Also, they close pretty irregularly, so if you’re short on time, call before coming down. Out of the 4 times I’ve been, it was closed once on a non-store-holiday.
View on GoogleIt is famous for its Warabi Mochi, and it taste sublime. It taste sticky at first but then it slowly melts in your mouth, very subtle sweetness while has the scent of Warabi and roasted soybean flavor. Best Warabi Mochi that I have tasted. The 青梅(sour plum) traditional japanese sweet has a nice gummy texture while a subtle sweetness of the white bean paste sour plum filling. However, I think it lacks the flavor of sour plum.
View on GoogleAlthough the warabimochi are the most famous, the range of other products is also excellent. The wide variety of products, each with beautiful colours to match the season. The division of labour between the husband and wife team who run the shop and the apprentices who work upstairs are all very picturesque.
