I wanted to have the mizutaki I’d eaten in Fukuoka, so I made a reservation and visited on the eve of my son’s birthday. The proprietress and staff were friendly, making the delicious food even more enjoyable. This time we had booked a course, so we could eat without agonizing over choices, but if you go in without deciding what to eat, you’ll struggle to order. I’m not sure whether it’s my own indecisiveness or the sheer number of delicious dishes... Anyway, you can keep drinking bowl after bowl of the mizutaki broth, so if you’re not careful, you’ll fill up on the broth alone. Chicken lovers, watch out.

The weather was getting chilly and hot pot season had arrived, so I visited this place I’d been interested in. On a Friday night in October after the state of emergency was lifted, the table seating was almost full. Opening hours still seemed restricted to around 9, and just two service staff were handling seating, payments, and customer service, so they looked stretched. The handling of the hot pot and timing of dishes were a little off, leaving room for improvement along with longer opening hours. The location is practically Yushima, inside a nice restaurant building in Ueno-hirokoji. The interior is attractive, the tables are spacious, and there’s plenty of distance between them, so you can relax and enjoy your time. The service staff were polite and pleasantly brisk—top marks. Their service made me want to return. The food was, naturally, almost all chicken, and my companion found it delicious too. Next time I’d like to stay longer and try more things.

They start by letting you drink a bowl of broth, and seriously, it’s fantastic. The chicken pieces are big and really delicious too! To finish, I definitely recommend champon noodles over ojiya. Besides mizutaki, all the à la carte dishes are delicious too〜! But... Maybe they’re busy and understaffed, but the orders come slowly—or rather, way too slowly...

We had the 8,000円 course for 2 people. The dishes were carefully explained and tasted delicious. The main mizutaki was addictively good, and we were very satisfied. However, partway through, a large group sat at the table opposite us, making it so noisy that the two of us had to raise our voices to talk. I wish they had shown consideration by directing them to a private room or somewhere similar.

An attendant looks after you, making this a convenient place for small gatherings. The mizutaki is very light.
