It’s a cosy little European-style curry restaurant with three tables and four counter seats, located a five-minute walk from Sugamo Station. My wife and I stopped by for lunch before an afternoon cello concert. Not sure what the European-style curry’s got to do with the shop’s name, ‘American Route 66’, though. We had the Viennese-style cutlet curry and the herb chicken curry. They were full of flavour, with a rich scent from various spices, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. I’d love to go back.

View on GoogleThey have a very small but special menu, combining selected curry rice and cheese cakes. But it's surprising that they don't really speak English and the menu seems not so related to Route 66...

View on GoogleLocated along Hakusan-dori, about 7 minutes from Sugamo Station. From the shop name, you wouldn't imagine it's a curry shop, but it is an authentic curry shop. It was past 12 PM on a weekday, but I was immediately guided to a counter seat. From the lunch service menu, I chose the European-style beef curry (1050 yen). As claimed to be a dish of pride, I really thought it was a curry that was mellow yet had just the right amount of spiciness and deliciousness, just like beef stew (it's also written on the menu). This time I didn't have time so I gave up on the cheesecake, but next time I definitely want to try it along with the curry.
