Akamon Gyoza Ken is located right in front of the Akamon Gate of The University of Tokyo, making it easy to find. The restaurant has the feel of a typical Chinese eatery. Compared to other nearby Chinese restaurants, it tends to be less crowded, possibly because the dining space is quite small and not ideal for large groups. The menu offers a wide variety of Chinese dishes. I ordered the spicy fried chicken and black fried rice. In my opinion, the chicken wasn’t as spicy as expected, and the portion size was smaller compared to similar dishes at other nearby restaurants. The price also felt slightly higher for the same type of meal. Personally, I didn’t really enjoy the flavors, which may have been adjusted to suit Japanese tastes. During my visit, there was a nomikai (drinking party) group, which made the small space feel even more cramped and very noisy, as the tables are placed close together. I would not recommend this restaurant for those who prefer a quiet dining atmosphere, especially if there’s a nomikai happening.
View on GoogleFrankly, it was delicious, good value and not just the gyoza. I went at lunch, but chose slightly more expensive but still reasonable 5 Vegetables fried noodles, 5 gyoza set, soup, and very tasty. Almost right across from Tokyo University famous Red Gate.
View on GoogleFrom a Chinese view, the food is okay, not bad. The service is good and the environment is also good. The taste in this restaurant is similar to the average level of Chinese restaurant.
