The noodle was spicy with Sichuan pepper. Toppings include deied shrimp and cashew nuts.
View on GoogleStrong flavor, dependable and clean. Maybe a tiny bit pricey for noodles, but it grows on you.

View on GoogleA tantanmen specialty restaurant with a striking numbing sensation from Sichuan pepper (huajiao). I tried the rich, soupless versions of the white sesame tantanmen and black sesame tantanmen. I chose numbing level 1, but even that was too strong for me. Partway through, all I could feel was my tongue going numb, and I could no longer taste anything. It's a matter of preference, but it wasn't for me, as I enjoy the umami and depth of soups and broths. The white sesame tantanmen was tasty, with umami still coming through the numbness, but the black sesame tantanmen was very bitter. The numbness combined with the bitterness made it hard to keep eating toward the end. This is also a matter of preference, but I didn't like the sticky texture of the flat noodles, which seemed overcooked and soaked with liquid. This tantanmen specialty restaurant is recommended for people who like the numbing sensation of Sichuan pepper.
View on GoogleFor lunch, I tried visiting 175°DENO担担麺, the tantanmen restaurant that opened next to こくわがた in 本郷三丁目. Apparently, the main restaurant in 札幌 is a Tabelog Hyakumeiten selection. I ordered soupless tantanmen with 200g of noodles. For numbness, I chose 2, “numbing,” and for spiciness, I went with 6 for an extra 100円. The noodles feel more Chinese in style than Japanese. They're soft, flat noodles without much chew. As for the soup—or rather, the flavor—I couldn't really taste much white sesame. It was mostly the numbness and aroma of Sichuan pepper, I guess. I couldn't really taste much besides Sichuan pepper. Even spiciness 6 wasn't spicy at all, but you can adjust it by adding the homemade chili oil on the table. Going in with the idea that it's a Hyakumeiten restaurant inevitably sets the bar high, doesn't it 🤣
