Lovely little restaurant run by lovely elderly couple. Mori Soba was great and hospitality was exceptional. Would love to go back to Japan again just to visit here again!

When it comes to the iconic long-established soba shops dating back to the Edo period, there are Sunaba, Yabu, and Sarashina, and Sunaba is said to be the oldest among them. This shop calls itself the Sōhonke (head house) as its legitimate successor. It's on a corner of the shopping street that runs parallel to the tracks from Minowabashi, the last stop on the Toden Arakawa Line, with a Showa-retro exterior and interior. They don't particularly stock name-brand sake, but if you say "sake, please," you get perfectly tasty chilled sake. I was a bit surprised by how massive the itawasa I ordered as a drinking snack was, but it tasted good, so all is forgiven. In summer I love hiyashi tanuki, so I ordered it to finish, and the presentation was quite beautiful. When you pour the crisp broth to your liking over the smooth noodles and eat it, the harmony with the crunchy tenkasu in your mouth is lovely. The sobayu is thick and delicious too. The current (14th-generation) owner is apparently a Keio University alum. And of course, on the way home I ride the Toden, rocking along and dozing off.

First visit to Sunaba-san, a long-established shop inside the Minowa Joyful Shopping Street From Asakusa to Minowa was quite a distance. Getting there was easy, but would I have the energy for the way back, that kind of feeling Arrived A shitamachi shopping street Among lots of fun-looking shops that seem full of warmth you'll find Sunaba-san. It sits in the center of the shopping street and suddenly a historic building appears. Opened the door and went in It feels a bit stately but the owner is a kind person. The soba is probably nihachi soba Good chewiness and smooth to swallow if it's just one seiro it's gone in no time. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. Time to push on and walk all the way to Pelican-san.
