The place had a homey feel, like you are visiting your regular diner. The food was filling, affordable and has a good variety, quickly served. No problem with understanding each other with English, a few Japanese words and hand gestures.
View on GoogleThe old-fashioned Western-style restaurant interior has a nostalgic atmosphere. The photo shows 彩りステーキ丼 from あらかわ満点メニュー, apparently a collaborative menu by 女子栄養短期大学 and 荒川区. The portion is generous, the meat is tender, and the sauce goes very well with the rice. I was glad they also listed the calories and nutritional values! It was memorable seeing local friends gathering and chatting. Many places feel like you eat and leave, but I think a town needs places where people can deepen their connections while enjoying a meal or an after-meal coffee. Some comments mention slow service, but when I visited, an elderly couple (?) was running the place, so I think that can be forgiven.
View on GoogleEven allowing for the fact that there is only one older woman serving the dining room, she is far too unfriendly and does not even greet people who come in. I could not tell whether I would be shown to a seat or should seat myself. Since I was alone, I sat at a table for two, only to be asked later, “Are you alone?” and told, “Please sit over there,” making me move to another table for two. If there had been a counter for solo diners, that would be one thing, but this made no sense. The next pair of customers sat where I had originally been sitting. Both tables seated two, so was she annoyed that I had seated myself? (But it was my first visit, I did not know, and nobody showed me to a seat or even greeted me, so that was all I could do.) The service was so overbearing and condescending that I was bewildered. Although I work in a different field, as someone who also works in customer service, I found it unacceptable and extremely unpleasant. I was also only told afterward that a drink was included. That was fine, but she asked about it bluntly. With other older female customers around her own age, her tone was clearly different and polite, and she even asked whether they wanted their drinks after the meal or with it (she did not ask me). Maybe it was because I had seated myself, but she also put food in front of other office workers without saying a word. So many things were unacceptable. She spoke harshly to other people too, apart from the older female customers around her age. The menu feels like a Showa-era Western-style restaurant, but it is not reasonably priced either. Around 1500円. I had lunch, and the miso soup was spectacularly awful. Watery, and I thought, what is this? The miso soup at home tastes better. I chose fried salmon, but it was fried with the skin still on……I was shocked. Unacceptable. Were they cutting corners? If the skin had been soft, that would be one thing, but it was tough. When I tried to bite through the fried salmon, the skin remained, making it extremely difficult to eat. The fried salmon itself had no seasoning. I thought maybe that was because it had tartar sauce on it, but the tartar sauce was bland too. The salad had what looked like French dressing, but that was bland as well. Huh? Is this a place that makes hospital food? That is how it felt. Both the taste and the service were the worst. I will never go back!!!
View on GoogleThis Western-style restaurant is on the 1st floor of a building about a 3-minute walk from the south exit of JR Nippori Station. Inside, there is a retro feel, as though you have returned to the Showa era. I ordered the mixed saute and hamburg steak set meals, and their appearance and taste brought back memories of eating at Showa-era Western-style kitchens.
View on GoogleI had lunch with 3 friends. We all had mixed fry, and everyone kept saying how delicious it was and was completely satisfied(^^)/ The mixed fry included hirekatsu, fried shrimp, and fried scallops, all of them fantastic! The interior had a retro atmosphere, a classic Western-style restaurant. I definitely want to go again(^^)/ Travel blog 『YOSHIとTENのおしゃべりブログ』 is currently running!
