I took the Skyliner from Narita Airport and got off at Nippori Station. Since I was hungry, I looked for a nearby soba place and ended up here. It’s a standing soba shop with no English menu, so I just ordered randomly. Anyway, it turned out to be really tasty and very affordable. The place was clearly popular, with a steady stream of customers coming and going.

Looks extremely old school which is part of the charm. Open 24 hours and probably crowded most of the time. Bowls look like they have in service for past few decades with how much wear and tear they have. Thick soba which is their speciality is pretty firm. Fried items (especially JKB or jumbo squid tentacles with ginger) are tasty but quickly lose any remaining crunch when immersed in soba broth. Maybe try not to order too many fried items in 1 bowl as it gets messy to eat.

While looking for local restaurants near my hotel, I came across Ichiyoshi Soba. To my surprise, there was already a line forming before 7 a.m., and most of the patrons were locals — a clear sign of its authenticity! I ordered their most popular soba, and it far exceeded my expectations. Every bite was delicious. The experience of enjoying my meal while standing added a unique and memorable touch.
