First rate Indian food! (perhaps the best I've had in years.) Located next to a beautiful shrine and Japanese graveyard, decorated within beautifully- it transports you out off Tokyo and into a sublime dining experience. We indulged in a variety of dishes and topped it off with a full tea service at the end that was splendid. I GOT HUSBAND OF THE DAY AWARD FOR CHOOSING THIS PLACE FOR LUNCH.

The atmosphere of this place is beautiful and amazing. However the staff is a bit pushy. My friend and I wanted to share many things, but the staff kept pushing us to order things more individually. They assured us it was small portions but when we got it was massive and we couldn’t finish everything. I don’t like being forced to order stuff that I don’t want to. Overall I feel I would have had a better experience if I could order what I wanted.

Quite the experience-amazingly quirky décor, huge and delicious naans, solid curries and starters. Proper 1950s style highly hierarchical staff structure with an experienced, Basil Fawltyish owner at the helm who is very clearly in control of his chef and waitresses and takes no prisoners to ensure fast and efficient service. The owner is also a tea merchant and goes to great lengths to extol the virtues of his special tea blend, which is actually quite exceptional if one appreciates the subtleties of Indian tea. Definitely worth coming back to and highly recommended. Starter, three lassi, two huge naans, two curries and tea service=¥7,400 (£32).

We enjoyed a lovely lunch and tea at Darjeeling. The decor is very immersive! The Chana Masala was outstanding. The butter chicken was solid. The ginger Chai Tea wasn’t for us. The complimentary tea at the end of our meal was great! No reservation and our host did great accommodating our bad Japanese.

I was so shocked by this restaurant that the bad memory may stay with me for years. From now on, I’ll always check Google reviews before dining anywhere. At first, the man in white—whether the manager, owner, or boss—seemed polite, greeting us with phrases like “ladies first.” But within minutes, his mask dropped. He rudely ordered us, and other customers, to get up and move seats. I also noticed him quickly pushing people out as soon as they finished their meals. The staff were kind, but I saw that same manager yelling so harshly at a young waitress that she ended up in tears. It was heartbreaking. He clearly abuses his power and treats employees with no respect. As for the food: honestly, it tasted no better than supermarket curry—maybe worse—but cost five times the price. The bread was fresh and warm, which was probably the best part. The chicken curries had tough, flavorless meat, and there wasn’t even a single red-meat curry on the menu. Considering the owner’s stingy attitude, the heavy vegetarian menu felt more like cost-cutting than authentic Indian culture. Within just 2–3 km, I’ve eaten far tastier curries for one-third of the price. The restaurant looked nice inside, but it’s not worth ruining your mood just to deal with such an arrogant manager. If you only care about taking photos or don’t mind ignoring rude behavior, go ahead. But personally, I don’t think a place that shows no respect for basic human values deserves our visit.
