Great food. Cozy place to eat.
View on GoogleI ordered the “超特セット,” available only on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. It's an excellent-value set: a kakiage rice bowl, mini Punch (stewed offal), and even udon for 990 yen. The portions were generous and really filled me up. Service was very speedy too, and barely having to wait was another pleasant bonus. The kakiage rice bowl was substantial, and the Punch (stewed offal) was reliably delicious. With udon included too, it's hard to believe how satisfying it is at this price. This place delivers on all three: fast, cheap, and delicious, with outstanding value for money. I'd recommend it when you want to eat your fill.
View on GoogleI visited a Yamada Udon Shokudo! chain restaurant for the first time in a quarter of a century. I thoroughly enjoyed the incredibly delicious, nostalgic flavors. The person who came with me for their first visit ordered Sunday's daily set meal, finished everything, and was so impressed they said, “If only there were one in Tokyo!
View on GoogleApparently there are several theories, but at Yamada Udon, ordinary stewed offal is called “Punch.” I don't know any restaurant other than Yamada Udon that calls it “Punch.” The story goes that they held an internal naming contest for the product (stewed offal), but nobody came up with a punchy name that sounded like a hit. Then someone higher up said, why not just use “Punch” as the product name, and that's how it became “Punch.” I can't say for sure whether it's true, but am I the only one who now thinks it's actually cool that the name only makes sense at Yamada Udon? Today, too, I sat down and ordered without looking at the menu: “A Punch set with warm soba.
View on GoogleThis place is really good. The service is polite, and even when they have a free moment, they're briskly wiping tables or refilling water. Naturally, the food feels delicious too. Other Yamada Udon locations don't leave much of an impression, but this one makes me want to keep coming back. If I were the owner, I'd raise their hourly pay.
