It had the same name as the yakiniku restaurant where I worked part-time as a kid… so the name 名月館 drew me in on a whim. I'd like to say the meat was great! But the tongue was frozen rock solid. The kalbi was thick-cut and satisfying! I thought it was worth more than the price. The harami didn't have that typical fibrous harami texture, and this too was worth more than the price! It melts! The heart was tasty too, but… perhaps just worth its price… The senmai sashimi came with a familiar miso sauce. The oi kimchi was a different color than I'd expected… and wasn't spicy. More like lightly pickled cucumber. With the miso sauce from the senmai sashimi, it had just the right heat and tasted good. The gomtang gukbap… the color was certainly right, but… it tasted a little different from what I know. Then the cold noodles. They weren't Morioka reimen… so it was a disappointing “oh, I see…” moment. People from Iwate might be a little disappointed. A mega 角 highball for ¥660 is cheap! I'm sure it's a good restaurant. But my own expectations were too high, which led to this rating. Sorry…
View on GoogleI thought the portions might be a little small? But I was satisfied. Maybe it's a bit expensive? Still, the meat was thick, so it was delicious. I have some concerns about hygiene. The kimchi was salty, and when I complained they brought different kimchi, but their hands were wet and dripping. The white rice too, by the way. Is that okay?
View on GoogleThe beef tongue is seriously delicious! I love yakiniku and have tried all kinds of meat, but this is easily among my top two! The harami was thick and so tender you barely needed to bite into it, which was great! The apple gelato and summer-only? coconut gelato for dessert were seriously delicious! The kids enjoyed them too! The food was good, but there's only floor seating and it felt a little dated! Still, you can't go wrong with the meat, so 5 stars!
View on GoogleWe visited as a family the other day. There were 7 adults and 6 children, so we ordered 5 servings of kalbi, 5 of harami, 5 of tongue, and 3 of bone-in kalbi in advance, planning to order anything extra after arriving. That day we were split across 3 tables, but the meat listed above was brought to each table, resulting in 60 servings of meat. I wish they had used common sense and realized something was wrong. We hadn't ordered that much, and with children there, there's no way we'd eat that amount. The bill became very expensive too. I felt there was no consideration at all.
View on GoogleI highly recommend the weekday-only special menu. Kalbi 350円, harami 350円, giara 350円, nakaochi kalbi 350円, loin 350円—everything is incredibly tasty! There's also tontoro 350 and more, but first of all, the meat quality is excellent. The special offal=shimacho is my favorite cut, and this high-quality shimacho for 350円 makes me want to ask, “Are you really sure?” I'm tempted to order 5〜6 plates of nothing but shimacho and have an offal feast, but the special giara and nakaochi kalbi are also so incredibly good that I end up wanting other things too. I think ordering only the special menu would be completely satisfying, but I couldn't forget the beef tongue I had last time. I wanted it even at the regular price, so I ordered it, and it was so delicious I couldn't believe it was only a thousand yen. I also ordered the regular-price liver again, since last time it was wonderfully sweet, smooth, and delicious. And the gomtang soup I had last time was so gentle and flavorful that I figured a restaurant like this must have good cold noodles too. I ordered them, and they were another hit. The tanginess of the cold noodles seems enhanced with water-kimchi juice, making them very appetizing. The noodles have a good texture and are easy to eat. The cherries and pineapple are visually fun, but they also provide a real accent: eating pineapple and then sipping the soup makes the broth's savory flavor stand out. Ah, it's a shame this isn't in my neighborhood. If it were nearby, I'd want to go all the time.
