※This will be a little long. (Hiking dates 2026/6/12-6/13) When descending from the summit of 三原山 via the 表砂漠 route, you'll come to signs for 赤ダレ1.0km (left) and the summit parking lot (right). If you follow the 赤ダレ1.0km sign, you'll encounter concrete remains of an artillery battery and a small shrine (hokora), but be careful, as that is a different route. (Around 16:00 on the first day, I took the wrong route, got lost at that point, turned back, and tried again the following day..) To reach 赤ダレ, you need to take the path roughly halfway between 三原山 and this sign. There should be hikers' footprints around there, so following them should be fine. (There were footprints when I went🐾👣) With 三原山 on your left, you'll see a beautiful cone-shaped mountain ahead, so think of walking toward that mountain. ※The photo with the red arrow shows the junction toward 赤ダレ from the 幻の池 point. The map is an offline download from YAMAP. Farther along, you'll reach rugged rocks and a sign saying 480m to 赤ダレ. Once you see this sign, you can see the 赤ダレ information board a little farther ahead. I reached 赤ダレ but couldn't find the famous photo spot, and turned back because ①the cliff was quite steep (the information board also warns of the risk of falling) ②I was hiking alone with 0 other hikers around ③clouds appeared and the way back disappeared. Someone else posted that "the viewing point is around 100m northeast of this 赤ダレ pin," so I think that is the photo spot. I couldn't find much route information online, and YAMAP wouldn't let me post a pin after descending, so I'm posting here. ※I've also posted using the Moment feature just in case. I don't usually write many reviews, but I hope this helps everyone🙇🏻‍♀️ ※The weather was bad and I didn't find the photo spot, but I've given it ⭐︎4 with high hopes. (Next time for sure!) ◇Additional information (photos 10 and 11) You can also access 表砂漠/赤ダレ from the summit parking lot entrance. It's 2.5km from the parking lot entrance to 赤ダレ. The sign in 表砂漠 mentioned at the beginning is along a flat 1.5km path, which took me 15-20 minutes at a brisk pace.

I understood why there was nobody here despite it being fairly famous. It seems to be in a somewhat challenging location: climb partway up the hiking trail→descend→navigate an unclear section (I relied only on GPS and visually chose places that looked passable)→climb again on the way back. This time I tried the route 月と砂漠ライン→from 裏砂漠 to the summit→toward 赤ダレ→straight across 表砂漠 to the 月と砂漠ライン entrance, and it was pretty tough. But all that effort rewarded me with a beautiful view. Somehow, it makes you want to fly.

I parked at 三原山山頂口駐車場, walked around the 三原山 crater, then went through 表砂漠 to 赤ダレ. The descent from the summit of 三原山 to 表砂漠 and the path from 表砂漠 to 赤ダレ are hard to follow, but a spectacular view awaits if you rely on people's footprints. It was a weekday and nobody was around, which made me anxious, but surely this is one of 伊豆大島's recommended views. After 裏砂漠 and the crater circuit, I really hope you'll extend your walk and come here.

After walking around the 三原山 crater, I descended via the 表砂漠 course and headed toward 赤ダレ. As soon as I entered the 表砂漠 course, the trail became vague, and I ended up walking without knowing where the hiking course actually was. I had plotted a route to 赤ダレ in a hiking app beforehand and proceeded while comparing my current GPS location with the route, so I was fine, but otherwise I think I would have been very anxious. Please be careful if you go. Once you reach the rugged rocky area, a distinctive rock jutting out toward the sea comes into view along the way, marking 赤ダレ. You can't see the red rock face without getting close to the cliff side, but getting too close is dangerous, so I stood on a fairly large rock away from the cliff to admire it.

You can descend via the 表砂漠 route, or from the crater via the fork near the hornito. The viewing point is around 100m northeast of this 赤ダレ pin. It's a sheer cliff, so if you fall, you'll simply die. But the view is so spectacular it's hard to believe you're in Japan. It's on a par with the spectacular view of 三原山's central crater. It said trekking equipment was essential, but on a sunny day in early October, even a young beginner could get there normally by checking GPS. However, apparently today was the first sunny 24℃ day in 1 month, so I think equipment would still be necessary in anything other than sunny weather.
