On Respect for the Aged Day, the three of us, including my mother-in-law, visited with a reservation. When I asked her what she wanted to eat, she said, 『I want unagi!』 We'd actually been here several times before, and besides the great food, it was comfortable, so we chose it again. My mother-in-law is in her 80s, so I requested chairs when booking. I wondered what kind of seating it would be, and it turned out we took off our shoes and stepped into a tatami room with a table for four on the mats! Just the kind of seating older people like best! I was driving, so I had a nonalcoholic drink, while my mother-in-law and wife each ordered 1 go of sake! We also ordered a plate each of butter-sautéed spinach, grilled chicken skewers, and grilled liver. For the meal, we ordered 1 特松重 and 2 最上重. Before long, the proprietress brought the snacks and sake in glasses set inside masu boxes (both the glasses and boxes filled right to the brim). 『I poured a little too much sake (haha),』 she said. …What generous service👏 My wife and mother-in-law both love drinking, so they were delighted (haha). As they sipped away, the unaju soon arrived! When I lifted the lid, steam billowed out, making it clear it had just been grilled and prepared. I put my chopsticks vertically into the front-left corner and took my first bite. It was hot enough to make me puff and blow, and the unagi fell apart and melted in my mouth. 『Oh, delicious…!』 Entirely Japanese-raised unagi, completely different from mainland-produced eel… The ingredients are good, of course, but the owner's skill at filleting, skewering, and grilling must play a part too. I kept eating heartily in silence, looking at how the sauce had soaked into the exposed rice. I actually love not just unagi but the sauce too, so I requested extra sauce. It had thoroughly soaked into the rice underneath the unagi, and I couldn't get enough! They even provided additional sauce in a separate dish. What a thoughtful touch! The clear soup and pickles also had just the right stock flavor and saltiness, and I finished everything in one go. It's a lovely place where the owner's craftsmanship shines and the proprietress provides wonderfully thoughtful service. And compared with places nearby, I think this price is cheap for such excellent unagi! I can't come often, but I'll visit again for another occasion. I visited again with friends after a slightly late first shrine visit of the year to Nishiarai Daishi. This time, instead of my usual unaju, I ventured out and tried hitsumabushi. The proprietress always anticipates our needs and passes detailed requests on to her husband. After the hitsumabushi arrived and I mixed it, I first ate it as is. …Yep, it tastes like unaju (haha). Next I added green onion and wasabi. …That gave it a light, refreshing feel, and it was good. The green onion in particular did a great job. Finally, I poured on the stock and ate it ochazuke-style. The stock mingled with the unagi, rice, and sauce—delicious! Adding the remaining green onion and wasabi gave it another flavor, and it went down so easily that it was soon gone. I wished I'd ordered a large portion. Unaju is good, but hitsumabushi, with its changing flavors, is great too. …They're both delicious, so I think I'll struggle to choose next time (haha).
View on Google25/7/19(Saturday) I decided to visit because it was Doyo no Ushi Day. Apparently, only a special menu was available today, different from the usual one. I had a draft beer with hiyayakko while waiting for the unaju. After a while, the unaju arrived✨ Opening the lid is such an exciting moment♪ For this price, the portion was fair☺️ The unagi was fluffy and tender, and the charcoal-grilled aroma whetted my appetite😋 I had a really enjoyable time😋
View on GoogleIt was very delicious. The unagi was grilled perfectly.
View on GoogleR6! The prices had gone up(^_^;) But it's still cheaper and tastier than other unagi places!!! I want to go again. I want to go right away. (*^.^*)
View on GoogleFirst visit. I ordered bottled beer and 最上重. Overall it was delicious, but the sauce tasted a little salty to me. It might be just right with a drink!
