This is one of my favorite hidden gems. The original restaurant is in Kyoto, with locations in Shinjuku and elsewhere, but the Kita-Senju location is my favorite. There’s a choice of white rice or multigrain rice. You can grind your own sesame seeds just the way you like them, and there are two different sauces to enjoy. If you like, you can even add a little mustard to the miso soup. The tonkatsu is delicious, crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. You can choose the portion by weight, and the quality of the meat is excellent. It’s in Kita-Senju, a traditional Tokyo neighborhood, but the food is so good that I always make the trip here when I’m in Tokyo. I’m totally hooked.
View on GoogleGreat dining experience here! Food was very tasty (though it seemed the different dining options were largely similar, mostly a matter of proportion). Nice ambiance: good lighting and table spacing, with pleasant and attentive service.
View on GoogleThe Famous Tonkatsu Katsukura Kita Senju Marui-ten The Famous Tonkatsu Katsukura Kita Senju Marui-ten (on the 9th (restaurant) floor of the Marui Department Store). While the cuisine was created in Ueno, Katsukura is a Kyoto based establishment and above the front desk is a kanban (sign board) instructing those unfamiliar with the Kyoto variant, the dining procedure. The Kyoto variant is accompanied by a suribachi (grinding bowl) of toasted sesame seeds that are freshly crushed before adding tonkatsu sauce. The nihon-shu offered is generally from Kyoto. I like to order the Large Shrimp and Filet katsu Large Shrimp and Filet katsu. The tartar sauce with the shrimp is particularly richly flavored. Some chilled nihon-shu goes well with the fried food. Their rustic table ware is beautifully textured and decorated. The shredded cabbage is an important digestive with the fried pork. The yuzu dressing is worth trying.
View on GoogleI love Ebi Tempura Combo which includes 5 shrimp tempura. Also, the original source is matched with the tempura. Great hospitality which makes you feel happy.
View on GoogleOrdered the tenderloin tonkatsu and the food was amazing. They provide a range of toppings, sesame seeds, tonkatsu sauce and a personal favourite was the tartar sauce (meant to be eaten with the prawn tempura). Best tonkatsu I've had in Japan, could recommend.
