Good Ramen eatery, if you like tsukemen, in Kitasenju. Small restaurant, only counter seats.
View on GoogleExcellent chashu, as it has’t changed for 4 years!! It’s umami cannot be forgotten and my food couldn’t resist walking down the street after getting off the Kitasenju station. I chose tonkotsu bowl which had bit too much garlic but it’s ok. Had a wonderful lunch and have to come back for the chashu.

View on GoogleTsukemen lunch at 宗庵 in a light drizzle. Peak time had passed, but there were about 4 groups ahead of me. My choice was of course tsukemen, but after agonizing between the all-toppings and the seared chashu, I went with the seared chashu. Added a seasoned egg and ordered rice. There's fish powder on the table, so you can enjoy changing up the flavor. When it arrived, first just the rice came, then the soup, and finally the noodles with toppings. The soup has the sweetness of dashi but isn't too strong, so you can dunk plenty of noodles and slurp. The seared chashu is fragrant and goes great with rice. The only letdown was that the soup for diluting had gone cold. The tsukemen itself is tasty and the shop has a calm atmosphere, so I'll add it to my Kitasenju tsukemen rotation.
View on GoogleI visited around 7 p.m. at dinnertime. It was lively inside, but the staff always greet you energetically, which gives me energy too. This time the timing was good and I got a counter seat without waiting. I ordered the signature toromi buta tsukemen. Large and double portions of noodles are free here, so this time I went large. The dipping sauce has a solid richness from back fat and clings well to the thick noodles. The noodles were chilled just right, and their firm, chewy texture was impressive. There's quite a lot of back fat, so it may feel a bit heavy toward the end, but I think it suits people who like rich, heavy flavors. It's close to the station with good access. Food is served efficiently, so it's an easy place to drop by after work and such.
