You won't believe how well it's designed till you get inside. Hidden gem in between of ordinary housing. Worth to visit and you will be surprised that you spend there more time than you thought. Calming and relaxing. Recommend.

View on GoogleA museum right in the middle of a residential area. You can walk there from Rokuchō Station on the Tsukuba Express. Bicycle parking available. Pay the 300 yen admission to enter. There are permanent and special exhibitions. The courtyard is really lovely. You wouldn't believe a form like this is in a residential area. You can go up and down the stairs. In the 2nd floor space you can drink coffee for free. Families can rest here too. It's good that you can relax on the 2nd floor terrace while looking at the lawn courtyard and the sky. It's the best space to zone out while listening to music on earphones. Note: Don't drink too much coffee just because it's free.
View on GoogleWeekday around 2pm. 300 yen. Cool building. When I went inside there was a free cold water dispenser. Photos were OK throughout the whole building. Works by Japanese painters even I know were on display, like Itō Shinsui, Kaburaki Kiyokata, Okuda Togyū, Munakata Shikō, Fujita Tsuguharu, etc. There was also a special corner on Umehara Ryūzaburō, and I got to fully enjoy delicate, beautiful Japanese paintings. And I basically had the place to myself! It was nice being able to go back and forth around the courtyard in a loop. Also, it was my first time at a museum that plays BGM. I also liked that there were tons of chairs to rest on. The 2nd floor is a rest area, where I zoned out gazing at the garden while drinking coffee from the self-serve coffee machine. There were lots of art books and magazines too, perfect for relaxing. You could choose the coffee strength, and it was surprisingly tasty. Since it has a green roof, the atmosphere changes with each season, which is nice. I want to go again. It was a luxurious time. They don't seem to advertise much, but I think it's a super hidden gem of a museum! Closed in February, May, August, November, and over the New Year holidays. During exhibition periods it seems to be usually closed Sun & Mon, and in summer Sun, Mon & Tue, so better check before you go.
View on GoogleVisited around noon on a weekend. My impression was of a building with no windows, only walls, but when I went inside, the mortar-shaped roof was covered in lawn and water flows through the courtyard. A space you can't imagine from the outside. You can drink coffee on the 2nd floor. Admission is 300 yen, cash only. The coffee is included in the 300 yen admission. The day I visited seemed to be koto practice day, so I spent a luxurious time listening to elegant music.
