View on Google九龍酒樓(カオルンシュロウ), about a 5-minute walk from the west exit of JR Kita-Senju Station, is a Chinese dining restaurant with an extensive selection of authentic oven-roasted meat dishes. It faithfully recreates Hong Kong traditions, including Hong Kong-style char siu roasted golden brown in a special oven imported from Hong Kong, Sichuan-style mapo tofu made with authentic Sichuan seasonings, and crispy roasted chicken wings finished by pouring hot oil over them. The hugely popular Hong Kong-style oven-roasted char siu looks similar to Japanese chashu but is quite different. Far-infrared heat leaves it browned outside and juicy inside. Another source of pride is the Shaoxing wine. Besides wine served from earthenware jars, they offer the Clear series, which is almost undiluted, in different ages. The restaurant can accommodate banquets of up to 26 people, making it suitable for year-end, New Year, welcome and farewell parties. I booked and visited around 18:00 on a holiday. There is no lunch service, and evenings are reservation-only for 2 or more people, so the requirements are fairly demanding. Still, you can book through Tabelog, so it's no problem unless you decide to go alone that same day. The red Chinese lanterns stand out against the metallic facade. Inside, the impression is casual. I was shown to a table. *博多小女郎 磨き, barley 3,100 yen *Ice 200 yen *Soda 200 yen Isn't that cheaper than an izakaya? They also have bottles of wine from 2,600 yen, so pairing the food with wine might give it a nouvelle chinoise feel. *Shark fin course with sparkling wine 5,500 yen ・Chinese hors d'oeuvre plate Shanghai-style salted jellyfish・Crispy roasted skin-on pork belly・Chinese pickles of colourful vegetables The jellyfish is thick, and the pork belly skin is fragrant and roasted. A good selection of starters keeps the drinks flowing. ・Hong Kong Honey Pork (homemade oven-roasted char siu) Roast pork finished to a glossy reddish brown. The meat is plump and tender, making its popularity understandable. ・Whole braised shark fin in premium stock The shark fin has a deeply nourishing flavour. ・Hong Kong Chicken Wing (crispy roasted chicken wings) The crispiness of the skin is interesting. ・Prawns simmered in chilli sauce The large prawns are nice. ・Hong Kong-style shrimp wonton noodles in a salt-seasoned broth Thin noodles swim in the salt-seasoned soup. Finishing with noodles makes the course more satisfying. ・Homemade melt-in-your-mouth almond tofu A substantial course with shark fin included, offering good value for money. My impression is that if you're choosing Chinese food in Kita-Senju, you can hardly go wrong with this place.
View on Google・The signature dish is Hong Kong-style oven-roasted char siu ¥900 Finely marbled, deeply flavourful pork shoulder is marinated in a special sauce, roasted in a Hong Kong-style oven at 180〜230℃ for 40 minutes, then brushed with a honey glaze. The surface is sweet and crisp, while the inside is moist and juicy. ・Crispy roasted skin-on pork belly ¥1100 I saw it on TV. Shokusai no Okoku '20.8.29 I didn't manage to find a good restaurant in Hong Kong, so this is somewhere I'd like to visit, even though it's far away!

View on GoogleThe Cantonese roasted dishes, such as siu yuk (roast pork belly) and char siu, are delicious. Most places in Tokyo serving these kinds of Cantonese roasts are upscale restaurants, making this reasonably priced place a rare find.
