Tanmen: 600 yen Noodles boiled on the soft side. Toppings: pork, cabbage, bean sprouts, carrot, green pepper, leek, shimeji, and wood ear mushroom. The pork is mostly lean, with a firm texture. The vegetables were somewhat limp overall. The texture of the shimeji and wood ear was good. The soup is salt-based, but the vinegar's sourness dominates!! It turned out to be a tanmen flavor you can't get at other shops. An elderly owner runs the place alone, yet with courteous service and attentiveness!! It came with a boiled egg and oshinko, and at checkout I was given a candy. The menu on the wall said 550 yen, but it was 600 yen. Consumption tax??? Even as a tip, it's cheap. Thank you for the meal.

This is way too bad! The food smells off somehow.. Awful on a level beyond “you get what you pay for” On my way out they handed me a candy but I threw it away The inside is dirty, it's been a long time since I ate feeling this uneasy and a long time since I felt this unpleasant.. I'd recommend retiring

I'd been wanting the golden combination of ramen and fried rice when I found a machi-chuka and went in. The strong independent-shop vibe raised my expectations. Those expectations started turning into “Is this place bad?” when the oshibori came out. But my feeling of “I want the ramen-fried rice set” was strong, so I ordered. With the owner's “Here you go,” the long-awaited ramen and fried rice were placed on the table. The ramen was visibly a simple shoyu ramen, looking just as expected. The fried rice, I thought, was a little pale in color? but I convinced myself “so this is how they do fried rice here,” and dug in. First, the ramen. Well, not particularly tasty, but it's shoyu ramen. Then the fried rice. The instant it went in my mouth, a tremendous foul odor. Instinctively I couldn't chew, my gaping mouth wouldn't close, and I spat it right out. “Something's wrong with this place…” But hunger dulls the mind, and made me feel the ramen in front of me was “surely fine.” Then I fearfully ate a few bites of ramen. And suddenly, the ramen started giving off that foul odor too. With trembling hands, faced with the unimaginable dish before me, I felt a fear I had never felt in Japan in my entire life. At this point I no longer wanted to talk to the owner. I had absolutely no desire to argue about this odor. I left the required amount and hurried out of the shop. I will never forget the taste of the Mitsuya Cider I drank afterward to fill my stomach. P.S. In the days since, there have been no changes in my health. But my desire to eat ramen and fried rice has vanished, and I feel a sense of loss.

The ramen is pretty tasty; the fried rice depends on your taste. They gave me extra takuan on the house (o^^o)

First lunch break at a new work site, I was thinking about what to eat. I stepped out and looked right and saw a Kourakuen. Looked left and caught sight of small letters saying Kouran? Chuka? For me, a machi-chuka lover, Kourakuen was no longer an option. I walked over; it said “Open,” but there was no sign of it being open. Then from behind came a man who looked to be in his 80s, in a tank top and shorts with a plastic bag of medicine in one hand, said “opening now,” and started unlocking. The moment I went in, a strange odor hung in the air… I thought, uh-oh… “Pick from what's written there”… I wanted to eat quickly and leave, so I ordered ramen. No air conditioning inside; there's a fan but it wasn't on, so I turned it on myself. No water came out either… Since it had just opened and the stove wasn't even lit, it took forever… Finally the water came Then I waited 10 minutes With “here you go,” ramen and takuan on a small plate… What a combination—is it telling me to order rice too, with the takuan as bait? Nori, menma, and for some reason a single peeled shrimp still with its shell—shoyu ramen??? I think that's what it was, but the broth was cloudy I had zero intention of eating the shrimp… I slowly flipped the noodles up from the bottom and could tell they were already soggy… At this point, a morbid curiosity welled up I'll take one bite One bite of noodles before the soup: lukewarm… soggy… what is this… One sip of soup: what is this taste! A taste I'd never experienced, probably rotten… water wrung from a school cleaning rag, pond water full of summer algae, the juice from a kitchen garbage bin… A taste like those 3 combined… Lightning shot through my brain… My whole life flashed before my eyes like a revolving lantern… One bite of noodles, one sip of soup, I left money and headed back… It was a shop that carves a new page into China's 40,000 years of ramen history…
