Retro feel remains. Local diner. Honestly, the interior is not comfortable. Because of that, I felt human warmth and coziness. Good vibe. Feels like it would be used for filming a drama or movie. Want to go again.
View on GoogleYamashina Shokudo in Yao City where you can experience a good old Showa atmosphere. The shop has been established for an amazing 46 years. Business Hours 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays There is no parking lot, but it seems okay to park next to the shop (west side). It seems the shop is run by an elderly father, mother, and son. Nostalgic atmosphere right from the entrance, very nice! Inside the shop, there are 2 counter seats 4 table seats for 4 people When I asked the mother, she said the recommendation is donburi, so this time I ordered Oyakodon (580 yen tax included). When the Oyakodon arrived, I was so shocked it sent a shockwave through me! I have only ever seen this in Showa TV dramas! Lo and behold... The donburi comes with a lid, and isn't there 2 slices of takuan on top?! This is bound to be delicious just from the vibe!! By the way, I looked up why there are 2 slices of takuan. It's a custom from the Edo period 1 slice = Hitokire (slashing a person) 3 slices = Mikire (slashing the body) 4 slices = Shi relates to "Death" That's why it became 2 slices. As for the taste of the Oyakodon, as expected of the donburi recommended by the mother! An expert flavor made for 46 years, the piping hot egg was half-cooked and gooey and very delicious. After that, I additionally ordered Tamago Udon (430 yen tax included). The udon has a somewhat nostalgic taste, and the dashi broth is delicious. There are also Curry Udon, Champon, Chuka Soba, Meat and Vegetable Set Meal, etc. Inside the glass showcase, there are also dishes like tonkatsu and katsutoji, and it seems if you go early there are many available. There was also chilled tofu (hiyayakko) in the fridge. And, another shocking event occurs. That was when the previous customer paid the bill. A sound went "Click! Click! Click!", so when I glanced over The mother?! Lo and behold... Was she calculating the bill using an abacus (soroban)!! Even though in modern times there are convenient calculators brought by civilization, what is the meaning of this... I began to worry if I had seriously time-traveled back to the Showa era and wandered into a parallel world, so I looked around. Nostalgia Level ★★★★★ For those who want to recall that distant nostalgia they almost forgot, this is a recommended shop. One disappointing thing is that smoking is allowed inside the shop, and a previous customer was smoking so the smell was strong. Prices are cheap and delicious, and the mother was extremely friendly. QR code payments like PayPay and auPAY are available, which is convenient. If you go now until Wednesday, February 21, 2023, under the Yao City municipal campaign, limited to au PAY payments, 20% will be returned, so why not visit on this occasion 😄
