A stone monument and an explanatory marker stand in front of the gate of Korenji Temple. According to them, during the Teibi War, Mononobe no Moriya built an Inaki and fought the forces of Soga no Umako. An Inaki is said to have been a castle enclosed with rice or a castle of stacked rice, but it seems the details aren't known. Mizuki (water fortresses) still remain in Fukuoka Prefecture today, but what exactly did an Inaki look like? Maybe they used rice to block enemy arrows, but as an amateur I can't help thinking it would've been all over once fire arrows were shot at it — so what was it actually like? I'm really curious. I don't think this battle was the first siege in Japanese history, but as a castle fan myself, I'd really love to know the detailed structure of the Inaki.
View on GoogleI made my way here through the maze of streets near the airport. Apparently it's associated with Mononobe no Moriya. A castle site from a very, very long time ago. This area still forms an old village. Its origin is said to be that when fighting Prince Shotoku, a simple residence surrounded by rice was built.
View on GoogleThis is said to be where the Mononobe clan's army built an Inaki and fought back during the Teibi Incident of 587. There's also a stone monument about the Inaki in Kinuzuri, Higashi-Osaka, so I'm curious which one is closer to the truth.
View on GoogleThere was a stone monument and an explanatory board. Apparently it's the site of an ancient castle. There were no remains or anything at all.
