Among the fields, the spot where tall trees grow in a dense clump is where the tomb is, but since the surroundings are private land, I couldn't get close. When I asked the Tondabayashi City Board of Education, I got a courteous reply and was able to deepen my understanding of this kofun. Today a mound about 2.5 m high remains, but it seems its original shape has already been lost. Also, while no excavation has been carried out so far, a survey measurement was done in the past. What is inferred from those survey results is that it was a round tumulus about 40 m in diameter with a surrounding moat thought to have been 7–8 m wide or more; at the time of the survey, some cylindrical haniwa were exposed, still lined up, and they had the characteristics of haniwa from around the first half of the 5th century. Also, although there's no supporting evidence, judging from its scale it's presumed that someone of regional chieftain rank of the time rests here, and considered as a regional chieftain's tomb, this kofun is by no means small (in other words, it was very likely a powerful figure who ruled the entire surrounding area). The following literature is available, reportedly sold at the city's Cultural Properties Division and at the former Sugiyama Residence in Jinaimachi. It can also be read at the city library. ・富田林市史編集委員会1985『富田林市史』第1巻(406頁~413頁) ・富田林市教育委員会2014『古代のとんだばやし』 Also, for the historical background of the time when the Shinge Kofun was built, you can refer to the following. Besides the pdf, a web book version is also available. ・「広報とんだばやし」令和3年3月号、「わたしのまちの文化財」(ページ17)
