A great day trip from Osaka. Some beautiful edo and Meiji era buildings. Stop by the visitor center as you get off the train and get some maps of other buildings to check out in the area. A great little day trip. When we went it was not crowded at all and felt like a peaceful tourist experience (compared to places like Dotonbori and Osaka Castle).
View on GoogleWhat a wonderful, relaxing place to visit and immerse oneself in an Edo period mansion. Each room is preserved immacutely and you get a sense of what it may feel like living in such a home. The women managing this house are very friendly as well. Take your own time, take many beautiful photos, and explore.
View on GoogleI’m so glad to have discovered the Old Sugiyama House during my road trip. It’s a beautifully preserved residence of an old noble family who played an important role in developing the local town, arts, and architecture. The house itself is a great example of traditional Japanese design, with tatami rooms, old wooden beams, and thoughtful craftsmanship that reflect life in the Edo period. The preservation work is excellent and gives you a real sense of stepping back in time. I was the only foreign tourist when I visited, which made the experience feel very authentic and peaceful - a chance to immerse fully in local culture and history without any crowds. Definitely worth a stop if you’re nearby and enjoy historical sites.
View on GoogleIt's not crowded so you can enjoy exploring the house and nearby buildings slowly and quietly.
