Right after going up the alley across from Gyomu Super, there are large historic buildings to the south and north: the Koi family residence and its branch family, the (North) Koi family. A grand mansion located in the northeastern part of Jinaimachi, occupying most of one block. The very long rice storehouse on the north side enhances the townscape of this district. The Koi family's ancestors are said to have moved here from Hirao Village (Mihara Ward), and for generations they went by the name "Hiraoya Shobei" and ran a lumber business. Apparently they were also a family that served as village headman (shoya) during the Ansei era. The main house was built in the late Meiji period, reportedly on the site of the family's former lumberyard.. Anyway, the long, long rice storehouse is really lovely. It is not open to the public.

The Koi family was also one of the households where she served in Ochoyan (NHK morning TV drama starting November Reiwa 2, the story of Chieko Naniwa). (Though there are probably main and branch families.) In her life, it was the Koi family where the "goryonsan" gave her money and helped her escape (to get away from her biological father, who kept coming to beg for money).
