An old-school Showa-style udon, soba, and donburi shop I'd been dying to try for ages. Just before noon, when I slid open the door, it looked like it had been full just a moment ago, and an older woman was single-handedly clearing tables, taking orders, serving, and handling payment. A group of four men who looked like construction workers, three solo male customers who looked like office workers, one pair, a dad with a daughter of about 3… I was curious about the omurice too, but I ordered the chuka soba, which I'd been most curious about. Pork, cabbage, bamboo shoots, white leek, kamaboko… add wood ear mushrooms and it'd be like old-fashioned gomoku soba. The broth leans Japanese-style, and the noodles are yellow, smooth chuka soba noodles. A comforting flavor I could eat even with a fever from a cold — I'm sure it would perk me up. They served pepper along with the chuka soba, so I tried adding some partway through, but it's delicious with or without it. Maybe adding the shichimi on the table would have given me a different way to enjoy it — homework for next time. It seemed to be run by an elderly couple, and it was a heartwarming space. I was in the shop for about 15 minutes and started eating 5 minutes after ordering, so service is quick. During that time, four customers in suits who looked like office workers around 50 or older came in separately, one after another. Maybe there are a lot of regulars who work nearby. The long table along the wall (the seats easy for solo diners) only has 3 seats, and the rest are 5 or 6 four-person tables. Since a lot of people come alone, I thought it'd be nice if there were more seats that are easy to sit at alone. I came alone too, but only four-person tables were available, and it's hard to share tables in times like these, so I sat alone at a four-person table… and felt kind of bad about it. The only reason I took stars off for service and atmosphere is the seating issue. Next time I want to try the omurice. I also want to try adding shichimi to the chuka soba, so maybe I'll come really hungry? Now I'm curious about the kamo nanban too… a fun, luxurious dilemma. Thank you for the meal.
View on GoogleCame for the first time after getting curious from other people's posts It's an old-fashioned diner loved by locals. The omurice also has an old-school taste and is delicious The chuka soba had a nostalgic taste too The soup is scalding hot, so be careful

View on GoogleIt seems to be a diner where regulars gather. While I was eating, the owner? and the customers were chatting about all sorts of things. I went by bicycle, but there was nowhere to park, and they said I could park in front of the shop, so I parked there. The food comes out really fast after ordering, so it's good when you're in a hurry. There's no menu card; you order by looking at the menu hung on the wall. The taste isn't bad, and the prices are cheap. However, sensitive people may feel a tingling numbness on their tongue after eating. This can happen anywhere, but I think it's probably caused by additives in the seasonings. The AC wasn't too cold, so it was comfortable.
View on GoogleIt's not the old diner style where you grab side dishes yourself. It's more like you choose from the menu written on the wall. You can get rice bowls, udon, soba, and so on. The katsudon was delicious.
