The planetarium is on the 1st floor of the Naka Library, next to Sophia Sakai. It just has exhibits lined up, nothing particularly worth seeing. I went to kill time waiting for the planetarium, but the library was many times better for killing time.
View on GoogleI learned so many things I didn't know. The staff also kept an eye on visitors from a distance that didn't get in the way, and I'd like to visit again.
View on GoogleI watched a video of many people who experienced the Great Sakai Air Raid talking about their experiences. There is nothing more tragic than war.
View on GoogleIt can't be helped that the exhibits are limited. I do hope it becomes more extensive, but first get to know the past somewhere close to home, and if you feel a further sense of mourning, it's good to seek out other places. For those who don't feel anything, I think it'll be the same wherever they go. In that sense, I really hope you'll visit.
View on GooglePersonally, it was a good learning experience. Looking carefully at each item, like children's wartime diaries, ration tickets, and farewell letters, I could feel a bit of the rawness of that time. Looking at the area burned to the ground in the Great Sakai Air Raid, from around today's Sakai-Higashi to around Sakai Station, almost nothing was left. It felt strange to think that almost all the buildings now are new. I was amazed it had recovered this much. I wasn't very knowledgeable, so the relatively easy-to-understand content was good. One request: for things like the diaries, you could only see the one open page, so I'd have liked to view all the pages if possible. Also, I'd like them to allow photography. Since it was a weekday, there were few people and I could learn calmly. I couldn't learn everything, but I hope war museums like this will always remain.
