An amazing museum filled with rich history and exquisite craftsmanship! This is a fantastic museum! It offers a rich overview of local history, and the collection of traditional knives and cutlery on display is stunningly beautiful—true works of art. It’s an incredibly engaging place where you can easily lose track of time exploring. The staff members are all extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful, making the entire experience even more pleasant. It is definitely a place I would love to visit again!

It was amazing seeing the little exhibit and gaining an appreciation of the craft!! If you are buying knives I would definitely recommend making this your first stop and then going to other shops around the area subsequently. The store will give you a nice overview of what they have and what most shops would have available

Highly recommended for anyone interested in Japanese knives — whether beginner or enthusiast. The Sakai Traditional Crafts Museum offers an impressive selection from various Sakai workshops, ranging from solid entry-level knives to premium pieces with elaborate Damascus patterns. There's something for every budget. What makes this place special is the experience itself. The staff takes time to explain everything in detail without any sales pressure — even if you spend an hour asking questions and end up choosing a more affordable model. The saleswoman who helped me spoke excellent English and patiently explained the differences between steels, blade shapes, and individual smiths. You leave with real knowledge, not just a purchase. Compared to tourist shops in central Osaka, prices here are very fair — the museum is operated directly by the Sakai blacksmiths' guild. If you're in Osaka and have any interest in kitchen knives, the small detour to Sakai is absolutely worth it. One of the best experiences of my trip to Japan.

Interesting place to see the craftsmanship, but it feels more like a high-end shop than a museum. The selection of knives is impressive if you're looking to buy, but there isn't much to do otherwise. Good for a quick visit.

Free to enter, and you can learn about the history of WHY Sakai became famous for knives, like Seki became famous for swords, and Tsubame Sanjo became famous for tools like oroshigane. Sakai makes highly specialized knives for everything. I think it’s because the merchants and chefs asked the knife makers to make unique blades to support whatever business or industry the merchants were in. Knives and souvenirs may be purchased on the 1st floor.
