Really enjoyed the food and the staff were very kind and came to our table to give us a refill in a Tokkuri bottle, would recommend for a light lunch.
View on GoogleAs the name Monzen Soba suggests, it is located in front of the gate of Katayagami Shrine. The not-so-large shop blends into the town without flashiness, truly possessing the exterior of a classic soba shop. There are rare types of soba such as the slightly greenish uguisu soba (100% buckwheat soba) and Sakai Sunaha, along with other standard menus. I ordered the tenzaru; the portion is a bit small, but I was satisfied with the delicious soba and freshly fried tempura. The interior is quiet, the owner's service is polite, making it a cozy, classic soba shop.
View on GoogleHad lunch ☺️ The menu consists only of soba, but there were quite a few items to choose from, which made me hesitate on which one to pick. Only the new menu had a picture, And the staff member also recommended it, So I went with that! The soba was springy and a bit firm, which was delicious ✨ I thought the portion might be a little small, But since I hadn't eaten breakfast And this was my first meal of the day, that might be why I felt that way 4😅 The payment method seems to be cash only. With handwritten slips, I thought it had a charming feel! It was delicious so I'd like to come back if I'm nearby again. Thanks for the meal 😋
View on GoogleAbout a 7-minute walk from Sakaihigashi Station, located next to Katayagami Shrine, I dropped in after seeing the word "Monzen". Since both the shrine's closing time and this place's closing time are 4 PM, I went here first and ordered "Sakai Sunaha" from the signboard menu at the entrance. I didn't have time to look at the picture menu, just a verbal confirmation that it was cold soba, but ordering it was the right choice. If I were to complain, it might be about the portion size and the price. If you factor in the atmosphere in front of the gate and its status as a specialty, it makes sense. The tenzaru someone else was eating looked good too, so next time might be that or the same Sakai Sunaha again. It seemed to be operated by a single person, so it might take a little time when it's busy. I plan to visit the former Tennoji Reservoir site too, so I'll visit again!
View on GoogleSaw the reviews and decided to go It was a letdown The portion is small, and I think the price is high considering that It wasn't even that delicious 🫤 The customer service was also unfriendly. I love soba and since it was written as if they are particular about it, I had very high expectations.
