It’s a startpoint for learning and enjoyment of this UNESCO site , beginning with audiovisual show for 5-10 minutes, to overview of Sakai city and the huge ancient tomb. There is souvenir shop with cute gimmicks , handicraft arts and LEGO display with tomb mound replicas and tower replica.

This visitor center really saved our trip here as there otherwise wouldn't be much to do down here. There is a lot of information inside the center that explains all about the mounds. There is also a short 10 minute movie that explains it as well as showing lots of beautiful drone footage of the sites. Definitely recommend coming and watching it!

Very kind staff and a super cute selection of souvenirs! The theater has a huge screen for showing the aerial view of the mounds, which is great if you can't take the ballon (the day we went it wasn't working due to the windy weather)

Have been wanting to visit ever since I saw the documentary about the kofun tombs on BBC. Dragged my whole family here, and I honestly can't say they enjoyed it. However, I find it interesting to see these unique man-made structures which are particular to this area of Japan. We walked around a few of the tombs from the train station, and they're not easy to spot without the help of the signboards. The explanatory video in the visitor center was quite intresting and informative, which helped in imagining how they actually look like back then. Overall, enjoyed our short day trip here, and am glad we visited this very unique UNESCO heritage site.
