It was listed as one of the Sakai City Museum Passport venues, so I visited for the first time. Farm tools, nostalgic household appliances, armor, tea ceremony utensils and more are on display. Even in summer with temperatures over 35 degrees, the rice storehouse was a little cool. It was a space where you could feel the wisdom of people from the past.
View on GoogleThe entire area where the Kotani Castle Folk Museum stands used to be the vast estate of the Kotani family. There was even a tennis court. At some point a hospital was built. The folk museum is not located inside the hospital grounds. It's a small museum. Lots of farm tools used in the old days are on display. Above the entrance of the main house was a "bridal palanquin." Did the woman who came to marry into Kotani Castle "ride in this"? Just imagining it is fun. Photography is prohibited indoors. Photos are OK in the garden. Free parking available. Admission is 200 yen.
View on GoogleKansai Culture Day—I was able to visit for free. It's a small cultural facility, but I was surprised by the well-kept garden and the large number of items in the collection. Not only Sue ware as archaeological materials, but pottery from various eras, farming and fishing tools, everyday goods, samurai household items... There's a big cherry tree, and I'd like to visit again in spring.
View on GoogleVisited for the third time after a year! November 3, 2018: this time there was a proper "Open" sign, and I could look around at my leisure! The historical exhibits were good! Unfortunately, photography is prohibited! Visited again! August 27, year 29 For some reason it was closed again. Even though I walked all the way from my home in Izumigaoka, no one answered when I called, and no one answered at the Sakai Tourism Association either! Rural museums really are hopeless! The Sakai Tourism Association also seems to only put effort into Sakai Ward, the main part of Sakai! We don't need a museum like this~! This is exactly what you call a waste of taxpayers' money! I guess it can't be helped since no visitors come, and with an indescribable feeling I just can't let go of, I'm now going to walk to Tajihayahime Shrine! August 6: I visited in the heat, but it was closed. What a shame! A summer vacation, of all things (lol)
View on GoogleThe walls and gate are impressive, and it seems it was regarded as a castle back then. Now the house-like building serves as a local history museum, and you can tour the inside of the house and the garden.
