A town Chinese restaurant in front of Nankai Shirasagi Station. Almost all town Chinese menu items are available, all at student-friendly price points. Speaking of must-have items at a town Chinese restaurant, it's yakimeshi, so I ordered it. Fluffy standard yakimeshi and Chinese soup for 600 yen. The taste was very much to my liking.
View on GoogleTown Chinese restaurants", which seem to be decreasing from the streets lately. Such a dwindling town Chinese restaurant is located at Shirasagi Station in Sakai City. Shirasagi Hanten here has been operating for decades, exuding an old-school atmosphere. Sakai City gets quiet once you pass Nakamozu Station, starts getting a bit noisy at Hatsushiba, gets quiet again at Hagiwara-Tenjin, and noisy once more at Kitanoda—that's the pattern. The slightly laid-back vibe of Shirasagi Station matches nicely with the nostalgic vibe of Shirasagi Hanten! This atmosphere is indescribably cozy, making it a restaurant I frequent. I always order the garlic ramen set, but today I also had the cold Chinese noodles (hiyashi chuka). The garlic in the garlic ramen is quite something! It packs a punch〜! I didn't do it today, but sometimes I order "extra garlic". The power of the garlic then is indescribable! It's addictive〜! The cold Chinese noodles have a very nostalgic taste! I wondered if it's okay to order two dishes? But I was able to finish it in no time.
View on GoogleI ate fried rice and 2 servings of gyoza. The gyoza had a strong garlic punch, and the soup that came with the fried rice was rich and delicious. Being an old shop, it doesn't feel very clean, but for such long-standing traditional shops, this is fine. The price is not that high either. I think I'll go again if I drop by nearby. Right in front of Shirasagi Station.
View on GoogleHad omurice, karaage, gyoza, and chanpon. Fluffy ketchup rice stir-fried in a medium wok. It's not one of those overly styled, fancy modern omurices, but I love this nostalgic-feeling omurice. Karaage was so-so, gyoza was average. Chanpon had a slightly thick ankake, typical chanpon. Eaten with plenty of pepper sprinkled on top.
