燒肉一丁Mitsutera
Mitsutera Temple, located within walking distance from Dotonbori in Shinsaibashi, Osaka, is a Shingon sect temple with a history of about 1,300 years. In the middle of the city where brand shops line Midosuji, it is a rare temple in the world that integrates a precious wooden main hall rebuilt in 1808 and survived the Osaka air raids, with a 15-story hotel. In the precincts, you can actually experience Japanese Buddhist culture, including the morning service (Morning Service) that you can participate in 365 days a year, as well as Buddhist Sutra Copying and Goma practice. There are also highlights to see history and art, such as Buddhist statues built from the Heian period to the Edo period and a ceiling painted with over 200 flower pictures.

A Serene Sanctuary Amid the Hustle and Bustle of Shinsaibashi. Visiting Mitsutera Temple was a peaceful experience. After trying sutra copying while coloring Buddhist images, I felt my mind become clear and calm. I’d love to come back and join the morning Buddhist service in the main hall.
View on GoogleA historic temple just steps away from Dotonbori. Because it's right near the bustling city center, you can easily experience Buddhism. Highly recommended.
View on GoogleIt’s a historical Buddhist temple founded in the 8th century with a unique combination of a modern building built over it. Great location just a few minutes walk from busy Dotonbori street. Definitely worth a visit for those who are interested in history still alive in Osaka.
View on GoogleThe building visible through the glass as you climb the stairs is a structure from the early 19th century that has been preserved inside the modern building. It is a precious remnant of Osaka, which was almost completely reduced to rubble during World War II. The Buddhist statues, some dating back more than 1,000 years, have been protected and enshrined here by the citizens of Osaka. The head priest shared so many more stories with me, but I can’t possibly write them all down here. In any case, I think that if you visit with this kind of background knowledge, you’ll truly appreciate the splendor of this temple.
View on GoogleJust a 3-minute walk from the famous Glico sign in Namba/Dotonbori, I stumbled upon a historic temple that rivals the ones in Kyoto. The temple grounds look absolutely majestic from the outside, giving you a real sense of history. They offer a morning event starting at 7:30 AM where you can chant the Heart Sutra alongside real Buddhist monks. It was truly an incredible experience! I highly recommend stopping by when you visit Dotonbori.
