Cozy restaurant that seems to be popular with the locals. They had a la carte items as well as set meals. Food was decent and it wasn't super expensive, No English menu, but the staff seemed friendly.
View on GoogleMachi-chuka No. 242" A Chinese place I'd wanted to visit since last year. It had been closed for a long time, but at some point it reopened, so I went right away. Sunday, just before noon. There were lots of bicycles parked out front, so while I wandered around looking for a spot to park mine, customers kept streaming in, oh dear lol. The posted menu is from a year ago; when I went in today it had new prices. Set meals are around 1200 yen. Can't be helped?😱. But they're hearty. Large rice is 50 yen extra. A mapo tofu set meal wasn't on the menu, but when I asked they made it for me. It's a casual machi-chuka, so there's no numbing heat, but even so I was sweating lightly by the end. Big cubes of silken tofu with lots of sauce. Fried shrimp with zha cai, and the dressing on the shredded cabbage was delicious. The set meal soup comes in a bowl that would become a mini ramen if you added noodles. Loaded with toppings. Served in a jubako box, which I don't like, and since the rice compartment is small, the large rice was heaped up. The fine rice grains bothered me a little, but it was piled so high it spilled over, which made me happy. The gyoza are about as big as Ohsho's? Maybe because I ordered them afterward? They weren't piping hot and seemed underbrowned. No real garlic flavor, but.... The place was full of customers who seemed to be locals. From the proprietress's way of speaking I sensed she's from mainland China, but it's not the trendy hardcore Chinese food, it's a flavor fully adapted to Japan. In terms of variety of set meals, it's No. 1 among the Chinese places I've been to.
View on GoogleRanran, miso ramen, gyoza. A convenient location just a few steps from the station exit. The soup and noodles are typical machi-chuka. It's on the light side, so I guess you add spices to taste. I thought it might be a bit pricey, but both the ramen and gyoza are generous. The gyoza were packed with filling too.😋
View on GoogleA machi-chuka in front of Kami Station on the Yamatoji Line On weekdays it's open only in the evening, but on holidays it's open straight through from noon. You can enjoy cheap, tasty Chinese food.
View on GoogleChuka Ryori Ranran, on the south side of JR Kami Station. A proper machi-chuka. That day I ordered the ramen set meal (¥1000). It's a classic ramen with a chicken-bone-based soy kaeshi, but the flavor is a bit on the strong side. The noodles are medium-thin and straight, topped with bean sprouts and green onions. The sides were 2 pieces of karaage, 3 slices of chashu, and salad. The chashu had a distinctive sweetness, a taste I'd never had anywhere else. It was delicious. The interior is spacious with many tables, and the menu is extensive; a proper machi-chuka. They have à la carte dishes too, so stopping for a drink after work is nice. One thing to note: lunch service is only on Saturdays and Sundays.
