I've been coming here for almost 20 years, and their sense of taste is simply amazing. For the regular menu, while it's not uncommon now, they've been using rare chashu since before low-temperature cooking became mainstream. I love and greatly enjoy their tsukemen, where whole-wheat noodles intertwine with a rich pork bone and seafood umami-packed dipping broth. The quality of the limited-time dishes is also extremely high, and I completely understand why this has been a popular restaurant for many years. Because it's a pork bone soup, there is a distinct aroma so opinions might be divided, but it is definitely the hands-down best ramen shop in Matsubara City!

~Seafood pork bone with a hint of Japanese dashi... Wait, where's the gamey smell?~ ● Overall Verdict When you enter the shop, the gamey scent of pork bone greets you, naturally raising your expectations. For those who dislike it, this might be a dealbreaker right away. This time I ordered the signature Japanese-style tonkotsu in a large portion. The pork bone presence felt upon entering was almost non-existent; this is an easy-to-eat pork bone soy sauce ramen where the seafood flavor stands out more. There is a sweetness at the base, making it a soup unlike any other. A top-priority candidate for a repeat visit if I drop by nearby. ● Order Japanese-style Tonkotsu, Large portion, 1,300 yen ○ Soup First, a mild saltiness and pork bone aroma hit, with fish powder clinging to the tongue. Gradually, the saltiness builds up, combined with the aroma and umami of seafood, and the sweetness at the base comes forward for a lingering finish. ○ Noodles Smooth and chewy flat thick straight noodles. Has a wheat flavor, and the balance with the soup is great. ○ Toppings 1 slice of melt-in-your-mouth pork belly chashu with well-seasoned flavor. The fat is sweet and delicious. In addition, half a seasoned soft-boiled egg, daikon radish sprouts, and green onions. ● Cost Performance Felt appropriate for the price. ● Atmosphere, etc. ・The exterior has a long-established feel showing its age. ・The interior smells of pork bone gamey aroma. Counter seating only, giving it a true ramen shop vibe. ・The wife's gentle service leaves a very good impression. ● Others ・Mid-March 2026, weekdays around 12:30 PM. ・Scattering light rain, chilly 15℃ level. ・Several people inside the shop with no waiting. ・Located along Prefectural Route 187 Ohori Sakai Line, and by train it's a little over 1 km from Kawachi-Matsubara Station, making it somewhat hard to access.

I visited Jiko-ryu Ramen Memen. It is located about a 20-minute walk from Kawachi-Matsubara Station on the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka Line. There are 3 parking spaces at the shop, but since they were full, I parked at a nearby coin-operated parking lot. I arrived on Saturday at 11:10 AM and there were 4 customers ahead of me. There were 2 customers after me. There are 9 counter seats inside the shop. I had the Japanese-style Tonkotsu Ramen for ¥1,050. The soup is not thick, but it's a soup where the umami of pork is condensed and has a smooth texture. 1The noodles are medium-thick flat wavy noodles that match the soup. The chashu was delicious with the flavor soaking in like kakuni.

Tsukemen (regular) small noodles 1350 yen The day I finally got to visit the restaurant on my to-do list 🥹 Because of the scary image, I thought, ugh, to go alone is a bit... so I wanted to go but couldn't quite make it until my friend, who visits often, took me along and I finally made my first visit❣️ Arrived just past 11 AM on a weekday. Just barely made it in the first wave! Conversation is basically NG. The atmosphere inside the shop was tense, but the wife eased it with her cute voice and service ☺️ Thank you for kindly accommodating the smaller portion of noodles 🙏 There was quite a bit of pork bone smell, but it was mellow and easy to eat, what a relief 🥹 The whole-wheat flour noodles were also chewy and delicious 😋 The chashu was like ham too, I liked it 🙌🏻💗
