The best place to rest. After a long hike, I set out from Mt. Kongo, reached Iwawaki, and from there descended to this shelter hut. It was cold when I arrived, but it was cozy and warm here. The staff were very kind and helpful. Thank you so much. I'd like to come again soon.
View on GoogleA rest facility near the trailhead; the heat from the stove is a relief when your body is chilled. The view is nice too. There are restrooms and a rest area, and you can buy bottled water, tea, and sports drinks. (There are no vending machines, so note that you can't restock outside business hours.) I stopped by after cycling over the mountain from the direction of Takihata Dam. The older guys managing the place were cyclists, and they gave me some snacks. Thank you😆👍 There was a bike rack.
View on GoogleI dropped by casually on a long Super Cub ride, and you can easily enjoy the mountain nature here. I came without any preparation and kept regretting it — "Oh no❗". Shikisaikan is the information base for the area, a rest stop, and a restroom spot. They sell bottled tea, but there's no food. Bringing your own is the norm. It looks like you can enjoy it in lots of ways — strolling around Iwawakidera Temple, taking photos, playing in the stream, and as a starting point for climbing Mt. Iwawaki. Next time, I'd like to plan a lunch with a friend on the Shikisaikan terrace, slowly taking in the scenery while listening to the birds and the wind.‼️
View on GoogleThe climb starts here. It's a rest stop and a place to get ready. Naturally, there are restrooms too. The area around the building serves as an observation deck, but the surrounding trees have grown and get in the way (2025).
View on GoogleIt seems to be managed by members of the neighborhood association on a daily rotation. So it doesn't seem to be run for profit. The patrols seem to work the same way. They wear name tags, so I think you'll recognize them right away. Here you'll find copies of walking maps and flower information. It seems they don't currently offer light meals like food or coffee. I think there were drinks from a vending machine, but there are springs dotted along the mountain trails. Filling up there is also an option.
