This place is quite hard to reach if you’re not driving. I made the effort to visit because I really wanted to see Tadao Ando’s architectural design. I’m someone who enjoys architecture and museums, and I personally think it’s worth the visit. But if you’re not particularly into architecture or the exhibition content, it might not be worth the travel time. I didn’t have much time, so I couldn’t explore the indoor exhibitions in detail — it’s the kind of place where you need to spend a fair amount of time to fully appreciate everything. There’s also an outdoor area where you can see the excavation site. For those who are into design, don’t miss the reading area — it has architectural drawings and models on display. It’s definitely worth a look.

View on GoogleThis is a less famous or popular museum due to its remote location, but Ando’s work is still impressive. There are buses from the nearest train station to the front entrance then you hike to the museum.
View on GoogleNice archeology museum located in a stunning building designed by the famous Osaka-born architect Tadao Ando. The building itself is surrounded by the woods with accessible paths for easy walks. The exhibition is very interesting, and, although the explanation of what's on a display is in Japanese only, there are audio guides available free of charge! Also there are lots of hands-on activities (for kids and adults alike!) dotted throughout the exhibit and the EKI stamp collectors will find 2 new stamps right by the ticket office. The museum is not very well connected to the central Osaka but [for our family] was well worth a trip!
View on GoogleThe museum is actually very nice but quite inconvenient to access by public transportation. Furthermore, the cafe is just overpriced and has nothing good to eat. There's no convenience store nearby, so if you are coming long way (for example from Tennoji Osaka), it would be better to bring some snack or food from Osaka. The exhibition itself is interesting and well laid out but as I remember, most items are copies. That's not a problem for understanding the history, but just so you could know.
