I've been wanting to go for sooooooo long— Kingomaki Udon, finally. I made it at last! The shop is inside Mizuma Kannon Station on the Mizuma Railway, and it's open only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and the 18th of every month! lol Opens 11:00 – closes 17:00 That's why it was so hard to go. The menu is just Kingomaki Udon, hot or cold. I recommend cold✨ What I ordered: Kingomaki Udon ¥800 Sesame salt Naruto wakame onigiri ¥150 This udon was created with a wish for good luck and fortune for everyone who visits the land of Mizuma The udon noodles have pestle-pounded golden sesame kneaded in, and they're apparently made wide and board-shaped so that luck and paths will open up. Because these noodles look like gomaki (prayer sticks) when stacked, it was apparently named 'Kingomaki Udon.' Feels like it might bring some blessings~ I got yuzu kosho too❤️ Eating it together with the Naruto wakame onigiri makes it even more delicious. I definitely want to go again! The inside of the shop was super hot, so I gave it ⭐︎4.

It's hard to get full, but it was delicious, so I recommend it for a light lunch. There's no phone line to the shop, so in case of a sudden closure, it's probably best to have another place lined up as a backup.

I had lunch at 'Kingomaki Udon,' located in the building of Mizuma Kannon Station, the last stop on the Mizuma Railway (Mizuma Tetsudo). Mizuma Kannon Station has an old, historic look and is a beautiful station building known to those in the know; the shop is in a corner of that small building, opposite the automatic ticket machine. There's a meal ticket machine in front of the shop, but when I visited it seemed to be under adjustment (out of order?), and there was a sign telling us to buy from the station's train ticket machine across the way. Not quite getting it, I went to the other side, and on the bottom row of the train ticket machine, the udon menu was lined up. I'd never seen train tickets and meal tickets sold from the same machine before! As for the shop, through either of its 2 sliding-door entrances is a cozy interior with a counter seating 6 or 7 people. Maybe it hasn't been open that long—it felt brand new and clean. The 'Kingomaki Udon (cold) (800 yen incl. tax)' I had this time has flat noodles, and seems to be named that because they resemble 'gomaki,' the wooden sticks used for prayers at temples. The toppings are simply golden sesame and chopped green onion. But there's quite a lot of sesame, so if you try to slurp it like regular udon, it'll get in your throat and you might choke. That said, the noodles aren't ordinary, so think of it as something you can't eat like typical udon in the first place. Though simple, the flat noodles coated nicely with the fairly rich dashi and sesame, and it was delicious. Also, the 'onigiri (150 yen incl. tax)' I had with it had black sesame mixed in, and naturally it was also full of rich sesame flavor. One thing that bothered me a bit was that the onigiri was packed a little firmly. I felt it'd be easier to eat if it were a bit fluffier. Also, the paper wet towels on the table, maybe because they'd been sitting out or because of the air conditioning, had little moisture and were hard to use. Honestly, 800 yen for udon feels a bit pricey, but considering it's tourist-spot pricing and an unusual udon, I think it's worth trying once.

I had some time to wait for the Mizuma Railway train, so I went in thinking it looked like a tasty udon shop—big mistake. I ordered cold udon, but the core of the noodles was still totally hard; it tasted floury and stiff. Not delicious at all. It's crazy to serve food to customers in this state. A total miss. I don't recommend it at all.

An udon shop that opened inside the station building of Mizuma Kannon Station. The super flat udon noodles and the carefully chosen sesame were very delicious. The owner is involved in dramas and events promoting the Mizuma Railway and told us interesting stories—very satisfying. A shop I'd highly recommend in between sightseeing at the Mizuma Railway and Mizuma Kannon!
