It's the first time I noticed there was a place like this. I was surprised by how impressive the stone monument is. It's an old battlefield from the Siege of Osaka. It's hard to imagine with houses spread all around, but a battle was fought here in the early Edo period.

The old battlefield where the Battle of Kashii was fought, one of the fiercest battlegrounds between the Toyotomi and Tokugawa sides in the Summer Campaign of the Siege of Osaka (1615).

An old battlefield of the Siege of Osaka. The site of the battle between the Toyotomi army that sallied out from Osaka Castle and the Tokugawa-side Asano army advancing from Kishū, which the Asano army won. Nearby are the graves of Toyotomi commanders who were killed in the battle.

Came here while touring the Kumano Kaidō (The Kishū Kaidō starts at Kōraibashi, runs along the coast, and joins the Kumano Kaidō around where it enters Izumisano City, so the road in front of here is called the Kumano Kaidō, probably) Kashii Old Battlefield Site: near the bank of the Kashii River, a stone monument stands along the Kumano Kaidō. A nice spot where the Kashii River flows leisurely by, and a fierce battleground of the Summer Campaign of the Siege of Osaka

Apparently it's the old battlefield where the Asano army, attacking from Wakayama, fought the Toyotomi side in the Summer Campaign of the Siege of Osaka. Now there's just a lone rock.
