Founded 60 years ago A shop with over half a century of history is a local treasure 'たまや食堂' is a small diner along the national highway, run single-handedly by a mom in her 80s. I'd been curious about it for ages but never had the chance, and yesterday I went for lunch. The Showa-era atmosphere inside, Showa-era prices, a gentle, somehow nostalgic deliciousness that seems unchanged since Showa, and time spent chatting idly with the mom—every part of it is a kind, gentle place. For parking, a kei car can pull in nose-first in front of the shop. Otherwise, there's a coin parking lot diagonally across the road.

Unbeatable value for these times! The landlady runs it all by herself and is elderly, so please be kind This shop apparently has over 60 years of history! The udon has a strong dashi flavor and is delicious! There's no parking, so I parked at the Shimokawara Ryokuchi parking lot and walked

Went solo for lunch on a Saturday. It's in the area north of Itami Airport, along National Route 171 on the south side. There's no parking at the shop, so people seem to mainly come on foot, by bicycle, motorbike, and so on. It's a Showa-flavored everyday diner mainly serving single dishes, run solo by an elderly female owner. Inside there are counter seats and tables, about 10 seats in total. The menu has udon, ramen, rice bowls, and a few side dishes. Prices overall are super reasonable, which surprised me. Payment is cash only. One thing to note: since the owner works alone, it seems best to allow extra time if you're in a group or when it's busy.

A shop I'd been curious about every time I passed this road for work, for about 20 years. My wish finally came true and I got to visit. I was in a rental car, and when I asked the owner, the 'mom', where I could park, she said in front of the shop—since it was a kei car, I managed. On the right side of the interior, which feels like coming home to your parents' place, there was a case lined with side dishes. I figured this called for rice, and in that case I'd want miso soup, plus tororo udon or ramen to go with it. After agonizing over it, I asked the mom if she could pour the tororo over rice, and she gladly agreed. The side dishes were curry-flavored stir-fried onions, flaked grilled mackerel, and simmered shiitake. These were so good the rice seemed likely to run out before the tororo arrived, so it took a lot of self-restraint. Soon the tororo was ready. Smooth grated nagaimo with a raw egg dropped on top—perfect for lunch in scorching heat; the rice turned into an energy drink. The piping-hot miso soup was loaded with ingredients, and I liked its akadashi flavor. To finish, ramen. At just 280円, I let my imagination run wild about what it'd be like, but contrary to expectations, the look, aroma, and taste were probably like packaged instant noodles. It reminded me of the instant ramen I'd eat at the candy shop next to the municipal pool after getting worn out from swimming, and I accepted that this works in its own way. Total 990円. I refueled body and soul. I'd like to conquer the whole menu if I can, so I want to come back hungry.

What⁉︎ Ramen for 280円 including tax… At 『たまや食堂』 in Itami Shimokawara, near Gungyo Bridge on National Route 171, I had the 'Tendon (430円)'—round shrimp tempura with onion over rice with plenty of sauce—and the 'Ramen (280円)' 🥢 It's a diner I'd been curious about ever since my student days An elderly lady runs it all by herself…
