One of the best Edo period historical sites in the north of Osaka Prefecture. Very well preserved 18th century building.
View on GoogleAlso known as the "Camellia Honjin." It's a valuable cultural heritage site on the Saigoku Kaido, the road linking Kyoto and Nishinomiya. Apparently this building burned down in a fire in 1718 and was rebuilt with donations from the western daimyo and others. It's a representative honjin of the Saigoku Kaido, where Asano Takumi no Kami of Chushingura fame (lord of the Ako Domain) and even Emperor Meiji stayed. Because there used to be a large camellia tree beside the main gate of this honjin, it's also called the "Camellia Honjin." (Photographed October 2021)
View on GoogleIt didn't seem to be open to the public. The explanatory signs are packed with content and fairly interesting.
View on GoogleDue to the earthquake, it's closed and under renovation. P.S.: It looks like full-scale renovation work has started.
View on GoogleI'd come near here before while out on sales rounds, but it's a shame I didn't know about this honjin or the Saigoku Kaido!
