Small museum, mainly in Japanese but valuable information about the techniques used to improve the river. Also good for people needing sources in this area. Super friendly staff and beautifully riverside park. Historically famous location, especially during edo period

It explains in detail the brushwood mattress (sodachinsho) method of Johannes de Rijke, a Dutch civil engineer remembered as one of the great figures in the history of modern Japanese civil engineering, which used the natural force of the river's flow to push sediment deposited in the Yodo River downstream and restore water depth. Educational and interesting👍

I've been to the Yodo River a ridiculous number of times (slight exaggeration), yet I had no idea there was a facility like this. Tsk. The entrance is locked, so press the intercom and have them unlock it. Since it's the Yodo River, it makes sense to exhibit creatures living in the river, but there were insect specimens too. And stag beetles... here at the Yodo River... As a kid I was a total bug-loving boy, so if I'd known about this, I probably would have come every single day during summer vacation.

It's unstaffed, so ring the intercom and they'll unlock the door so you can go in. Fish that live in the Yodo River are also on display inside, which is kind of soothing.

It stands on top of the embankment on the Hirakata side, a little upstream from Hirakata Bridge. I'd been curious about it every time I went for a leisurely bike ride, but it was always a closed day or outside opening hours. But I finally got to visit. It's a free facility yet the exhibits are extensive, so if you're interested in the ecology of the Yodo River or flood control, I recommend taking plenty of time.
