My favorite udon shop. At this restaurant, even the warm udon noodles are thoroughly plunged into ice water after boiling, and then given a hot water rinse. The technique and temperature of this process probably change the finished noodles quite a bit. The edges of the noodles are faintly transparent, and the mouthfeel is as smooth as silk. When chewed, you feel a firmness; for those who love it, this is the ultimate udon. The broth is exquisite in both flavor and aroma, and the fried tofu skin is sweet too! My only wish is that I could enjoy this flavor in the summer as well... so if they had chilled kitsune udon, I'd want to visit year-round.

A hand-cut udon and soba shop located just south of Konoikeshinden Station. Right in front as you exit the ticket gates. The interior is quite spacious, and it seems there are no waits except during lunchtime. A hugely popular spot among locals. Used it for lunch and ordered the grated sudachi udon. The seasoning is on the mild side, but the udon has a good firmness and is quite delicious. Service and atmosphere are good, and it's reasonably priced. I want to try other menu items, so a return visit is decided.

Getting off at Konoikeshinden on the JR Gakken都市 Line, it's 0 minutes on foot from the ticket gates. I visited 'Teuchi Udon Soba Ekimae', located just south of the station. The square sign hanging on the wall also mentions 'Okonomiyaki', but this is a sign for a different shop (affiliated store?) located further down the back alley. Please note that okonomiyaki is not served at this shop. Right as you enter the shop, there's a counter for 5-6 people and about three 2-person tables. Heading further back, there are three 6-person tatami tables and four 4-person tables, making it quite a spacious interior. This time I had the 'Egg Bowl & Mini Udon Set' (650 yen including tax). The egg bowl is a standard dish of onions and green onions bound in dashi and egg. The onions were slightly firm, but that might just be a matter of preference. The udon broth was slightly sweet with a prominent dashi flavor, and the noodles had a smooth mouthfeel and were very delicious. Even while calling it 'small', it had enough volume, feeling like just slightly fewer noodles than a standard bowl of udon. Overall, it was reasonably priced, very delicious, and highly satisfying. On the other hand, the 'Curry Soba' ordered by my companion apparently felt like 'curry-flavored thickened soba', which seemed a bit lacking for my companion who prefers a punchy, spicy, and rich curry soba. Conversely, it might be good for those who prefer it not too spicy. One minor thing that bothered me: the old-fashioned Japanese-style interior is cozy and nice, but the TV volume at the back of the shop was quite loud and felt a bit noisy. Also, when the automatic door at the entrance opened and closed, it made a pretty loud 'Clatter clatter clatter!' sound, which startled me. It would be great if these points could be improved.

Ordered the tempura curry udon and an onigiri. The udon noodles are medium-thick with a solid firmness. The ingredients included shrimp tempura, beef, green onions, etc., and the ingredients were good. The dashi was a thickened curry dashi, which is just the way I like it. You can order onigiri starting from just 1 piece as well. Definitely a place I want to go to again if I drop by nearby.

It looks like they have been temporarily closed for a while now. Once things settle down, I'll come back to enjoy their delicious udon again.
