Stumbled upon this place and discovered the home cooked flavours created by the friendly staff. Great fish dishes, fried chicken, udon and soup at an affordable price. Yum!

On the lower end of the other "Shokudo" chain restaurants I've been to. Quite dirty, tables and floor greasy, old looking water dispenser, strange sediment in the tea...just seemed a low level of maintenance compared to other place. Food very average.

A good place for a quick lunch. Lots of choices of small dishes as well as ramen and udon.

Craving rice and soup, I went to "Maido Ookini Shokudo Higashi-Osaka Takaida Shokudo," a modern diner run by Fujio Food System in cafeteria style, where you choose and combine handmade home-style dishes yourself At "Higashi-Osaka Takaida Shokudo," the order is: signature tamagoyaki, grilled fish ⇒ small side dishes ⇒ simmered dishes, stir-fries ⇒ fried foods etc. ⇒ rice and noodles, soups I'm bad at deciding what to order after looking at the menu with no prior knowledge Especially in cafeteria style, where you have to decide on the spot instantly Since it's the signature item, I decided on the tamagoyaki immediately, but for the side dish and other dishes I couldn't settle on any one thing, so I picked somewhat at random: pickled napa cabbage for the side dish and aji fry for the main. Is this really what I wanted to eat? ■Tamagoyaki One of Maido Ookini Shokudo's signature items, cooked after you order; toppings were free, so I requested it with beni shoga Having lived in Kansai for over 35 years, I've gotten used to dashimaki-style tamagoyaki and can enjoy it, but the tamagoyaki at home when I was little was the sweet kind with sugar And on top of that, deliberately choosing beni shoga out of 5 toppings made me realize I've really lived in Kansai a long time It was delicious ■Aji Fry Aji fry in the classic shape, butterflied into a triangle with the tail on, with a token amount of shredded cabbage alongside The slightly thick batter was crunchy and hard, and since I ate it with mayonnaise rather than tartar, it tasted even junkier Like the tamagoyaki, compared to stir-fries or simmered dishes, maybe it's not a dish that goes great with rice? ■Rice The bowl is on the large side, so even the small size is about a light regular serving As mentioned, neither the tamagoyaki nor the aji fry went great with rice, so I ate it with the pickled napa cabbage and the tonjiru ingredients It's not the firmness I prefer, but since it wasn't soft, it was reasonably tasty I tried the free furikake, and it's tasty when you have it once in a while ■Pickled Napa Cabbage Pickled napa cabbage just like the packaged pickles you buy at supermarkets More salty than savory, I'd say ■Tonjiru This was more of a rice companion than the tamagoyaki or aji fry The generous ingredients, daikon, carrot, taro, atsuage, shimeji mushrooms and so on, are well seasoned, so bouncing them on the rice makes the rice go down easily It's packed with ingredients, so it's quite a hefty portion

Today, an advertising panel in front of the register fell onto the side dish I was planning to buy. The staff member was concerned about the dirt on the panel, but didn't mention my side dish at all. (It's probably something that's been used for years with the ads inside swapped out, so it may have had hand grime, dust, etc. on it.) So, since I thought the panel had touched it, I asked whether they had a replacement, and when they said there wasn't one, I declined to buy it. Afterwards, another customer five people after me bought the same item that had been returned. It was probably the one I had declined to buy. I felt uneasy about their hygiene management, and even if that wasn't the case, I also felt uneasy about their service, since there was in fact an item they had told me they "didn't have." This was a shop I went to very often, so it's really disappointing.
