Kozan Bunko (こうざんぶんこ) Kyoto by the Sea: a museum quietly tucked away among the mountains Materials about haiku and tanka were on display. Looking at each exhibit, I learned about Akiko Yosano, Tekkan Yosano, and Tekkan's father, Reigon Yosano. Reigon Yosano was born here and trained at Jofukuji Temple in Kaya (かや), Yosano Town. He composed many tanka. I learned a lot at Kozan Bunko.
View on Google200 yen” “Exhibitions mainly about Yosa Buson” “Few permanent exhibits” There are very few exhibits about Akiko Yosano and her husband, Tekkan Yosano. There were only 2 photographs and display panels. Most of it consists of special exhibitions about Yosano. I don't think this is a museum that Akiko Yosano fans need to make a special trip to visit. On the other hand, there seems to be a wide range of poetry activities. Many events for local residents seem to be planned, including haiku gatherings and reading groups. 【Parking】About 2 cars 【Accessible toilet ♿】Clean
View on GoogleA small museum and art gallery focusing on tanka and haiku. There are two small exhibition rooms. For each special exhibition, calligraphy and painting scrolls and painted sliding doors are selected from the collection to match the exhibition's theme. The selections are quite refined and interesting every time, ranging from famous figures connected to this area, such as Buson and Hiroshi and Akiko Yosano, to prominent locals active in Miyazu's haiku community. The lobby in front of the exhibition rooms has a section introducing the life of Reigon, Hiroshi Yosano's father, materials about haiku and tanka, and leaflets from literary museums around the country. Looking through these is enjoyable too. You can also go out into the garden, where there is a monument inscribed with a poem by Akiko Yosano.
View on GoogleNear Kozan Bunko is the area where Reigon, Tekkan Yosano's father, was born and lived, and which Tekkan and Akiko also visited as a couple. Yosa Buson also lived here, and his mother's grave is here. This small museum, collection center, and memorial was established because of those connections. It also serves as a local cultural hub, hosting haiku and waka gatherings and storytelling sessions for children. They seem to be working hard in an area with a declining population.
