This is probably located in the old town area of 加悦町. Admission is 400 yen, but I thought it was well worth it. The entrance is not very spacious, but the interior extends surprisingly far back, and displayed equipment was simply set out in a way that made me wonder, “Can I really touch this directly?” The staff member explaining things was genuinely kind and attentive. There is no dedicated parking for this facility, but there is a free shared parking area a 2~3-minute walk away. I definitely recommend visiting at least once 😊

旧尾藤家住宅, the only residence on ちりめん街道 that you can enter. Admission was free during the event. The staff carefully explained the interior. The main house was relocated from Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture, during the Edo period, and the building, expanded and remodeled repeatedly afterward, is well worth seeing. It was a Kyoto Prefecture-designated Tangible Cultural Property, but this year it was designated a national Important Cultural Property. Worth a look (2024/11).

Built in 1863, this Tango chirimen merchant's house is a symbol of ちりめん街道, and you can also tour the valuable Western-style residential building added in the early Showa period. Staff are always on site, so you can listen to their stories while looking around, making the visit feel especially worthwhile.

I initially wondered whether it was worth paying to see, but there was plenty to look at and I'm glad I did. Once you're an adult… Worth seeing!

Maybe I picked the wrong day to visit, but in the extreme heat there was no air conditioning indoors at all. It was just unbearably hot. A staff member handed me a fan, but it was a drop in the bucket. I behaved like an adult because I had someone with me, but alone I would have left in less than 1 minute. If you were filthy rich, at least install air conditioning. My own bad luck and seeing only the office staff relaxing in an air-conditioned room made me intensely angry.
