Yawata Hashiriimochi Rouho sits at 19 Takabo, Yawata, Kyoto 614-8005, a revered centuries-old wagashi shop positioned directly before the first torii gate of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine. First established in 1764 in Otsu, the shop relocated to Yawata in 1910 and remains the sole direct heir to the historic Hashiriimochi tradition spanning over 260 years. The classic wooden townhouse storefront exudes timeless Edo-period charm, harmonising beautifully with the shrine’s sacred approach. The shop carefully preserves age-old craft techniques and selects premium raw ingredients, maintaining authentic flavours cherished by generations of pilgrims. Its interior is neatly arranged, featuring traditional packaging and cultural background detailing about the local confectionary heritage. Ideally placed on sightseeing routes visiting Iwashimizu Hachimangu, it serves as a wonderful stop for travellers. Far more than a retail venue, this historic confectioner embodies enduring regional food culture. It offers visitors a precious chance to experience genuine time-honoured Kyoto wagashi tradition amid pilgrimage scenery.

A Japanese confectionery made by wrapping red bean paste in a rice cake and forming it into a long, thin shape. It was favored by samurai because of its resemblance to the shape of a sword. It is sold in front of the gate of Ishimizu Hachimangu Shrine.

Very delicious mochi and Japanese green tea. The service is really fast and friendly and the atmosphere is traditional Japanese and welcoming. The mochi is also one of the famous foods from the Iwashi area.
