Museum with calligraphy & brush paintings plus 3 traditional tea houses & colorful garden foliage.

A spacious Japanese garden with a nationally designated historic site and place of scenic beauty. It has 4 authentic tea rooms, including one designated as a Kyoto Prefecture cultural property, and is one of Kansai's leading Japanese gardens for beautiful “wabi-sabi.” An art museum and Kyoto Kitcho, which devised Shokado bento, are also located here, making this the birthplace of Shokado bento. The museum shop carries original Shokado Museum of Art merchandise and other items.

Shokado #Garden was a nice experience. lf you are into Japanese garden and tea history you may visit this place. ln the museum staff were kind and welcoming. Only note that, the museum is quite #small and everything was in Japanese. Although in the garden l have received an English brochure.

Last Sunday, May 15) I visited the Shōkadō Park in Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture. It's a relatively large garden with several tea rooms, a drawing room and an art museum. It’s in honour of Shōkadō Shōjō (松花堂昭乗, 1584-1639), a Buddhist monk, painter, calligrapher and master of the tea ceremony who was a central figure in the glamorous Kan’ei culture of the early Edo period.

Lovely, quiet Japanese garden just down the road from Iwashimizu Hachimangu. Most of the buildings were under repair when I visited (5/2019) due to earthquake/typhoon damage, but the garden was still lovely anyway.

Lovely Japanese gardens with a few teahouses scattered around and a surprising variety of different kinds of bamboo.
