About a 3-minute walk from Keihan Uji Station, this is a soba restaurant recommended for those looking for lunch in Uji, Kyoto. You can enjoy tea soba using Uji matcha along with authentic tempura using local ingredients from Yamashiro. The tempura, fried crispy in rice oil, is healthy and has a crisp taste, making it a perfect match for the soba. We source buckwheat flour with strong stickiness that suits our restaurant's taste from all over the country, and the suitable production area changes depending on that year's buckwheat seeds. As part of your Uji sightseeing, please enjoy tempura and soba in the warm, wood-based interior of the restaurant.

The set meal is a great meal deal for under 2000¥ if yiu want tobtry green tea soba noodles. Everything was presented with care. The staff are very helpful and polite. This soba restaurant is across the river from Byodo-in Omotensando so it is less expensive but the restaurant is very clean and the atmosphere is serene. I would recommend them 👍

On the positive side, we didn't have to wait in line. However, the food was nothing special and the service was a bit cold. Didn’t provide us a slipper but others wore it. It was hard to get a tea refill, and the staff seemed kind of annoyed when I asked what the matcha salt was for. For reference, it's meant for the tempura. It's an okay spot if you're in a hurry, but the hospitality needs work. NOT worth the price :>

Atmosphere was chill. Everyone was pretty quiet. Matcha soba noodles don’t taste like matcha, just for the looks. Free sencha tea. Honestly would have given 3, but the tempura was fresh, tasty, and just melts in the mouth. Matcha salt is perfect combo. Tastes more salt than matcha.

Tsubameya is conveniently located across the Keihan Uji Station, on the first row of shops heading towards the Uji Shrine. The narrow road leading to this restaurant is often congested with cars, so it's best to be cautious while walking, especially when exiting the restaurant. We, a group of two adults and two children, arrived around noon and were seated at the last available table on the second floor. There are seats on the first floor as well, making it quite spacious inside. There are Japanese and English menus. We ordered nishin (dried herring) soba, zaru soba, and two sets of two types of soba with assorted tempura and grilled unagi (eel). All soba can be ordered as matcha soba, 100% buckwheat, or 80% buckwheat. The matcha soba does not have a matcha taste; only the green matcha color is adamant. The overall taste of the soba and the companions is good. The staff is friendly, although their attentiveness needs to be improved.

English menu and bathroom available. It’s a cozy place with some Japanese pop music and you take off your shoes to get in. The service was just ok. They’ll take your order and bring you the food. You have to refill your own tea drink and they don’t really come by to check on you. It’s a bit on the pricier side for soba but it’s a tourist area so it’s expected. If you get the set, it comes with a decent amount of food.
