辰己屋TATSUMIYA
Fixed menus of seasonally inspired Kyoto cuisine & lunch bento in a venerable riverside restaurant.
【10 minutes on foot from Uji Station】We are “Kyo・Uji Matcha Ryori Tatsumiya,” established at this location along the Uji River since 1840 (the tenth year of Tenpo). Our specialty is matcha cuisine. Using generous amounts of carefully selected matcha unique to the tea-producing area of Uji, we offer an array of dishes dressed in vivid green, based on the idea of moving from “drinking” to “eating.” Among them, our “matcha tofu,” painstakingly made from raw soybeans, is a signature dish praised by many customers. Since few other restaurants offer “matcha cuisine,” we hope you will be sure to enjoy it when you visit us. Alongside these matcha dishes and kaiseki cuisine, another popular offering is Kyo-ben…

Everything had such a gentle, delicate flavor, and every dish was truly delicious. When I made the reservation by phone, I mentioned that I’m not very fond of fish, and they kindly accommodated my request by arranging alternative dishes for me. I really appreciated their flexibility and thoughtfulness. Perhaps because of the season or the rainy weather, it wasn’t crowded, and we were able to enjoy our meal quietly in a private room. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful, which made the experience even more special. The kaiseki course was 7,000 yen including tax, which I found to be very reasonable. The quality and taste far exceeded the price. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends, and I would love to visit again the next time I come to Kyoto.
View on GoogleIt was a truly wonderful dining experience. The restaurant creatively incorporated matcha into every dish, and each course was surprisingly impressive. The flavors were beautifully balanced and thoughtfully crafted, showing great attention to detail from the chef. The staff were also very kind and helpful — they were able to assist with Chinese translation, which made the entire experience smooth and comfortable. Overall, it was an exceptional experience, and I would definitely recommend it.
View on GoogleBeautiful dining experience with the vegetables just as delicious as the protein. Noteworthy was how soft and meltable the vegetables were and also how clean the taste of the fish duck and shrimp were. Would highly recommend both walk in or reservation. Definitely a memorable bento style lunch for us.
View on GoogleFantastic set lunch with over 33 pieces of delicately prepared items, in a restaurant that is over a century old. Great value for money and ambience. I first stumbled upon this place over a year ago and was amazed by the food and tea. Both the service and the taste was consistent on this second visit. We will keep coming back!
View on GoogleThis is hands down the BEST restaurant in Uji, and our favorite of all of our Osaka-Kyoto trip. The food is incredible, only specialties from Kyoto and Uji. The waitresses are very very nice and use translating apps to explain the dishes. The rooms on the 2nd floor have a magnificient view of the river. We felt like we were transported back in time in one of the most relaxing atmospheres ever. The owner (I guess ?) is absolutely beautiful and her waitresses all show perfect japanese etiquette and grace. We decided we will come back to Uji only to eat at this delicious gem of a restaurant. Thank you very much for the experience, we hope we can buy your delicious Uji matcha salt one day !!!
