Amazing experience for Uji Gyokuro tea. Question: Why is the first tea cup of tasting a bit like dashi? Did you mix with some umami powder? I bought Uji Gyokuro tea at the other 3 stores nearby , but none of those Gyokuro tea has that first cup taste of dashi like. I was able to relax and appreciate every single tea leaves. Although I practiced Urasenke Tea Ceremony for over 10 years, I am glad that I tried Uji Gyokuro tea for the first time.
View on GoogleHad a very good experience, good thing we saw this on a youtube video, and its well worth it! The explanation was very clear. We tried the matcha, gyokuro and sencha, we get the make the tea ourselves. We stayed longer than the other customers because we really enjoyed the tea. Best to face Uji river while have your tea. Not crowded when we came right at opening time (11am December on a Saturday). They also have a matcha grinding stone which you can try. We stayed for an hour, no pressure at all!
View on GoogleA tea lover myself, this was one of the most interesting experiences I had during my last stay in Japan. I was just having a day off at Uji and came across this place. What really caught my attention is that they teach you how to prepare your tea properly and do it yourself. I chose some really good gyokuro (there were matcha and sencha as well, but I love gyokuro) and some matcha-chocolate sweets. I enjoyed how passionately the staff talked about tea itself and the preparation. I got a lot of information on tea, both in English and Japanese (when the lady found out I was learning Japanese, taught me some tea related words). We talked about less common teas, about ceramics, about teas from other regions… and in the end I ate the tea leaves (which haven’t tried before) 村田さん, I’ll remember each time I pour my gyokuro to the last drop and also when I have a sunrouge. Definitely going back during my next visit.
View on GoogleWonderful experience! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff who not only explain the history of tea but also make it accessible by explaining how to prepare tea and matcha in your own home. Relaxed vibes, lovely tea. You are also able to buy the products here.
View on GoogleNo doubt of the most amazing experiences I’ve had in Japan! The service is precious and the view gorgeous! The Japanese lady that walked us through the process was just amazing and SO sweet! She explained every step in English, even used translator app at times to make sure we were following every step. We absolutely loved it and loved her! Haha Definitely recommend! We ordered the Matcha and Gyokuro tea making experience and it was $1800 each, no reservations required.
