総本家 大茶萬So Honke Dai Cha Man
Souhonke Daichaman was founded in 1919 in the town of Uji, where you can feel the fragrance of tea. For over 100 years since its founding, it has preserved unchanged methods and flavors, continuing to be loved for a long time locally in Uji, Kyoto. Kyoto Uji is a historic and cultural city centered around the Uji River, featuring beautiful seasonal landscapes, world heritage sites like Byodoin Phoenix Hall and Ujigami Shrine, and famous as a setting associated with The Tale of Genji, bustling with many tourists every year. The origin of "Cha-dango," a staple Uji souvenir: Cha-dango, made using Uji matcha which is a specialty product of Uji, Kyoto, was originally created by Mankichi Souchi, the predecessor of Souhonke Daichaman. The dango was delicious, so was the matcha tea. But DO NOT try the matcha milk, they are like condensed milk with matcha flavor. Should tell them to decrease the sugar level
View on GoogleWhen ones visit Uji, ones must try match soft serve. And I also tried it. This place serves matcha soft serve, it was creamy and very soft with strong taste of matcha. It is served along with mochi to complement the soft serve. It is not cheap by typical ice cream but it is worth to try it.
View on GoogleThe shaved ice is WAY WAY WAY TOOOOOOOOOO sweet. The shop keeper was not willing to change the dish or help to solve the problem. Very disappointing.
View on GoogleStopped by this Japanese sweet restaurant for a little break during our visit to Uji. Lovely restaurant with friendly staff. My husband ordered the hot matcha milk while I ordered the Matcha soft serve ice cream. They both come with skewers of dango. We love the rich matcha flavours so much that we bought two matcha mochi to go.
View on GoogleThe matcha mochi is amazing and the price is reasonable. Really high quality matcha. The dango is slightly too sweet but that’s how it usually is. The lady was so accomodating and there is a place to sit down, relax and enjoy the food.
